May can be a month of planning...graduation parties, weddings, camping trips, road trips and more. Planning a little party or vacation may be second nature to many, but for those that suffer from lupus, simple activities can sometimes feel impossible. Lupus: The Great Imitator
|
Lupus is often called the Great Imitator because it can be hard to diagnosis. It looks like a lot of other things such as rheumatoid arthritis, blood disorders, fibromyalgia, diabetes, thyroid disease, Lyme disease. It also can manifest itself as heart, lung, muscle and bone diseases.
A few facts about lupus:
There are four types of lupus
It's a chronic inflammatory disease
> 90% of lupus sufferers are women
Many are diagnosed between the ages of 14 and 44
Only about 5% of children of mothers with lupus will develop it themselves
It can affect various parts of the body including skin, joints, blood and kidneys
As a working mom, our friend will share some of the trials of living with lupus, including raising a busy family and working fulltime.

Is that Mona Lisa in Your Surgery? |
