Greetings!

With summer just around the corner, now is the time to schedule your annual exam.  No one wants to spend a lot of time on chores and all the necessary evils, so we offer you the convenience of scheduling your appointment and paying your bill online.  With the click of a few buttons, you can request your appointment or pay a bill and not even leave the comfort of your home.

We are collecting all copays, coinsurances and deductibles at the time of service.  What does this mean to you?  We now require a credit card on file; this will enable us to bill your credit card (once insurance benefits are paid) and your bill will no longer become old news.

April is the debut for a new section in our newsletter-EHR Deconstructed.  With healthcare reform in the news so often, you most likely have heard of 'electronic medical/health records'.  Paper charts will become a thing of the past, along with duplicate testing and missed exams.  We will explain the nuances of the EHR each month so you can better understand how electronic records will benefit you.

~We are listening~  Your opinion counts!  In the very near future, we will be asking for your feedback.  How are we doing?  What can we improve on?  What are we doing well?  Surveys will be in-office and online.  We would appreciate a few minutes of your time, so 'THANK YOU!' in advance.

April is Alcohol Awareness Month.  Have you had that conversation with your teens?  April 21 has been designated by MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) as PowerTalk 21 day.  For information on how to get the discussion started, click

here.   With high school prom night, graduation, and warm weather parties ahead, it's not too soon to have that talk.

Enjoy the beautiful spring days!

Sincerely,

The Women's Health Group

To Section or Not to Section...

A month devoted to cesarean sections?  Yes, April is National Cesarean Section Awareness Month.  National cesarean section rates are rising and it's possible this troubling trend will continue.  According to WebMD, The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development found one in three first-time moms delivered by C-section.  That's one third!  The physicians at The Women's Health Group have a c-section rate of 13-15%, much lower than the national average.  For the full article from WebMD, please click here.

In the past, it was assumed if you had one c-section, you were destined to deliver by c-section with future pregnancies.  Not always true.  Some women are candidates for a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean).  This is a decision to be made with your doctor, taking into consideration all the factors that may affect your delivery.

For more information on cesarean sections by the physicians at The Women's Health Group, please see this article.

EHR Deconstructed

Monthly glimpses at the patient benefits of electronic health records.

The Women's Health Group is considered an 'early adopter' of electronic health records.  This means we jumped on board early on to purchase an electronic health records program, including new computers, scanners and all the software.  Not all medical offices are ready to move forward; they will continue to use paper charts.  Some offices are small and the cost would overwhelm them, while others are going to 'wait and see' what successes (and frustrations) other offices will experience.

As an early adopter, our systems have been in place for two years and we spent the last year refining our 'work flow' within the office (the processes used to accomplish tasks to ensure exceptional patient care).  The learning curve is steep, but the physicians and staff at The Women's Health Group are dedicated to improving the work flow, so you, the patient, will be seen in a timely manner and your calls will be answered quickly.
  • No more waiting for us to 'pull your chart'.
  • Quick access to your current labs and tests.
  • An efficient recall system to remind you of annual exams and necessary bloodwork.

Each month, we will give you another glimpse into our EHR adoption and how it benefits you, our valued patient.
