Greetings!

Pink is the color of October.  Pink seems so sweet and innocent yet pink is the color of breast cancer-hardly sweet and innocent.  You will see ribbons and reminders everywhere, especially in October, the official Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  You probably know someone diagnosed with breast disease.  Maybe it's a relative.  Maybe it's you.

Give the 'girls' a check!  Protect yourself by doing regular self-exams and when appropriate, getting your mammograms.  Be diligent in following up with your doctor if your results indicate a change.  Support your family and friends who are facing this scary, life-changing disease.
Sincerely,

Give the 'girls' a check!

Pink Ribbon and FlowersBreast Self Examination or BSE, takes just a few minutes and you only need to do it once a month.  Your healthcare provider will show you how to do this simple exam and explain what to look for.  Our easy-to-follow instructions can be found here.

Mark your calendars.  Call your mom.  Call your daughter.  Start a group email reminder for all your girlfriends.  Tie a pink ribbon on your shower faucet as a reminder.  Walk with 60,000 others in the Komen Denver Race for the Cure.  Just remember to give those girls a check every month.  Don't they deserve a few minutes of your time?  Don't YOU deserve a few minutes of your time?

Lumpy?  Bumpy?  Worried?

Lumpy?  Bumpy?  Worried?  Doing that monthly exam can be confusing if you have a lot of lumps and bumps.  Sometimes these lumps can be painful.  Should you be concerned about breast cancer?  That depends on your history, time of your cycle, and a few other factors.  Oftentimes, the cause of this discomfort or pain could be Fibrocystic Breast Disease (FCBD).  Please click here to read more about FCBD.  As always, if you aren't sure about a lump, call your healthcare provider and have it checked.

Speaking of mammograms...are you in the right bra?

Pink Tape MeasureTired of tugging and shifting and adjusting?  Maybe you are in the wrong size or style bra.

Le Soutien in Cherry Creek North (Denver), shares some fitting tips with us.  If it's time to update your lingerie, the expert fitters at Le Soutien would be happy to help-and a tape measure is only part of it!

What is a 'portal' and why do you need one?

Woman with computer
With all the information bombarding you about electronic health records, the word 'portal' might be new to you.  The 'portal' is the doorway for you to communicate with our office online; it's our website.  It will give you a unique access to our practice anytime- day or night, holidays or weekends.

Let's say you want to pay your bill.  It's after midnight and the kids are finally in bed.  Simply log in to the secure account (that you created) and pay your bill online.  Maybe you need an appointment, but it's after hours and you're afraid you will forget to call tomorrow.  Again, you can log in to your secure account via our website, request an appoinmtent including the day, time, and physician preference.  We will respond the next business day.

You aren't ready to schedule an appointment and you have no bill to pay?  You STILL can use the portal!  Log in, create your account and use the tools we have for creating your own personal health record, complete with directions for printing it off and keeping it in your wallet.  No more forgetting what surgery you had five years ago or what medication you take.  If you put it in your record, it's all there.  Safe.  Secure.  Private.

Don't forget to go to our website for printable handouts-we are adding to the Patient Education section all the time.  Get directions to the office.  Check out the physicians.  Try our Links page to locate great websites devoted to women's issues!

What are you waiting for?  Go to our website at www.whg-pc.com and create an account!
