Goodbye to heavy bleeding.

Period!

If you are one of 10 million women affected by heavy bleeding during your period, take comfort in knowing there are options!  There are proven, successful methods of helping women with this monthly problem.  The physicians at The Women's Health Group are highly-skilled in managing heavy bleeding whether you choose a non-surgical option, or you are a candidate for surgery.

  • For some women, doing nothing is the right choice.  The heavy bleeding might be a temporary problem and resolve on its own.
  • Medical management by way of an IUD or medication might be your answer.
  • Surgical intervention is an option for many women who have exhausted other resources.  Hysterectomy is a well-known procedure and with the newer, minimally invasive techniques, women have much less down-time than a decade ago.  Endometrial ablation is another minimally invasive option and can be done in our office.  Please click here to read the entire article on this successful procedure that could put an end to your heavy bleeding.  Period!

A steaming mug of FIRESIDE HOT CHOCOLATE, SPANISH STYLE will surely chase away the stress of the day.  A tempting combination of spices, milk and high-quality chocolate meld together for a warming start to the day or a calming retreat from the holiday errands.

FIRESIDE HOT CHOCOLATE, SPANISH STYLE
2 sticks cinnamon
Zest of 1 orange
6 whole allspice berries
10 black peppercorns
8 cups whole milk
1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, sifted
3/4 cup sugar
2 cups heavy cream
1/2# high quality bittersweet chocolate, chopped
Garnish options: Dark rum, whipped cream, freshly grated nutmeg

Wrap cinnamon, orange zest, allspice and peppercorns in cheesecloth or a coffee filter and tie with a string to seal.
Pour milk into a 3 quart pot and add spice sachet.  Bring to a scald over medium heat, stirring frequently.  Remove from  heat and let spices infuse, 10-15 minutes.  Remove sachet and discard.
In a medium bowl, whisk together cocoa powder and sugar.  Slowly pour about half of the scalded milk into the bowl, whisking constantly, until thoroughly blended and a smooth consistency is achieved.  Pour the chocolate mixture back into the sauce pot with the remaining scalded milk and stir to combine.  Add the heavy cream and the chopped bittersweet cholocate and cook over medium low heat, whisking constantly, until the chocolate melts.  The mixture should be silky smooth and piping hot.  Pour hot chocolate into warm mugs.  For an adult beverage, spike with a couple tablespoons of rum.  Garnish with whipped cream and freshly ground nutmeg as desired.
