PRESERVING YOUR FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHS
Two-part Community Workshop, level I*
Cost: $70 for both sessions (participants may not register for one day only).
What to Bring: digital camera, memory cards, old family photographs, bagged lunch.
Instructor: Melissa Reamer

PART I: Digitization Techniques
Saturday, September 3 · 10am - 4pm (1/2 hour for lunch)

Discover ways to maximize the life of your original photographs through an examination of deterioration factors, storage materials and environmental considerations. Then, using 20 photographs from your own family collection, you will learn and practice digitization and scanning techniques to be able to preserve and restore your cherished family photographs electronically.

 

PART II: Retouching
Saturday, September 10 · 10am - 4pm (1/2 hour for lunch)

Continue scanning your photographs and learn ways to retouch and restore them using Adobe Photoshop.

INTRO TO DSLRs
Two-part Community Workshop, level II*
Cost: $70 for both sessions (participants may not register for one day only).
What to Bring: camera (DSLR), camera manual, any cords/cables or media cards, bagged lunch (Saturday only). Optional: laptop, tripod.

PART I: Introduction to Basic Principles
Friday, September 30 · 6 - 9pm

Learn how to take control of your digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) camera and utilize its many features. A thorough demonstration process will demystify the menu buttons, prepare you to shoot manually and provide tips and techniques in order for you to make the most of your DSLR.

 

PART II: Putting it all Together - Shoot, Review, Edit and Retouch
Saturday, October 1 · 10am - 4pm (1/2 hour for lunch)

Practice the principles learned the night before by photographing on campus-learn to improve your photographic vision, produce dynamic compositions and maintain proper exposure. Computer operation and digital workflow principles will be covered, including the importing and exporting of image files, retouching, cropping, and further optimizing your photographs via Adobe Photoshop.

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY MADE EASY
Community Workshop, level I*
Cost: $35 for single session.
What to Bring: digital camera, memory cards/card readers, bagged lunch.
Instructor: Melissa Reamer

Saturday, October 15 · 10am - 4pm (1/2 hour for lunch)

Learn how to take better photographs by understanding the main functions and properties of your digital camera and photo editing software. Topics include basic composition and exposure techniques, offloading digital files onto a computer, file management, and an introduction to photo editing using Adobe Photoshop.

Registration opens Thursday, August 18, 2011.
All Saturday workshops include a half hour lunch break (participants should bring a bag lunch). Registration and payment can be made at the Museum reception desk in building 1200 during regular gallery hours.

*Class and Workshop Skill Levels

Level I - Open to all individuals interested in photography with no previous experience.

Level II - Individuals may have a basic understanding of photographic principles but rely on shooting in Program or Auto mode. Basic knowledge of Adobe Photoshop or basic computer skills are necessary.

Level III - Individuals that have had formal training and/or significant experience making, capturing and processing images. Participants feel comfortable using image-editing techniques in Adobe Photoshop.

Level IV - Individuals that have advanced skill and knowledge of photography. Participants are comfortable using/learning advanced image-editing techniques in Adobe Photoshop.

MUSEUM LOCATION

Unless noted otherwise, all museum exhibitions, events and films are presented at the Southeast Museum of Photography which is located on the Daytona Beach campus of Daytona State College at 1200 International Speedway Blvd, three miles east of 1-95.
