Nick Vedros: CANON Explorer of Light |
Friday, May 7th at 7pm
Public Lecture at the Southeast Museum of Photography
"The secret to solving a photographic problem," says Vedros, "or to making a photograph that duplicates the image in your head or in the Art Director's head, is the mastery of photographic principles. Without that mastery, you are not in control; you're leaning on your luck." -Nick Vedros.
One of CANON's Explorers of Light, Nick Vedros will be the special guest presenter this Friday, May 7th at the Southeast Museum of Photography. Nick Vedros is one of the elite group of 62 of the world's most influential photographers that belong to CANON's "Explorers." Each a master in their own specialty of photography, the Explorers share their expertise and passion with eager audiences of photographic professionals and enthusiasts through lectures, seminars, gallery displays and personal appearances across the nation.
Nick Vedros (www.vedros.com) is also the Juror for the 2010 DEPARTURES exhibition, to be opened this summer at the museum. Departures is the annual juried exhibition of photography from graduating students of the photography studies programs at Daytona State College and the University of Central Florida (Daytona Beach).
Nick Vedros has won top honors from the ADDY Awards, Effie Awards, Archive International, Communication Arts, the Top 200 Advertising Photographers, and the Canon Explorers of Light program. His award-winning photography has brought him advertising photography from top clients like Apple, Bayer, Capital One, Coca-Cola, DuPont, IBM, Kodak, Microsoft, Sony, and Sprint.
ABOUT NICK VEDROS
Vedros studied photography at the University of Missouri School of Journalism. He received his degree in 1976, and in 1977 opened his studio in downtown Kansas City. He made the rounds of Art Directors in Kansas City, portfolio in hand and before long was getting assignments. Some of the local advertising agencies had national clients, so Vedros got national exposure and in time the out-of-town agencies began calling. A firm believer in mastering photographic theory, he added to his early reputation by taking on difficult assignments and creating a production company to help handle the details. He quickly became known as a problem solver and as a master of lighting.
