5 Steps to Feel Fabulous
Customized Cleanse

Are you ready to feel fabulous in 2012?

I have a personal theory that the best things in life happen in the even-numbered years, so I have high hopes for 2012. And if I had one global wish it would be that we would deem 2012 the YEAR OF WELLNESS. As a functional medicine practitioner, when I talk about wellness I'm not just talking about the absence of disease. I'm talking about discovering what true wellness really looks like and feels like to YOU.

  • Do you have ample energy?
  • Are you at a healthy weight?
  • Do you feel beautiful on the inside and out?
  • Are you able to participate in all that life has to offer?

Read on for tips on how to make this your YEAR OF WELLNESS. And be sure to check out my newly-designed web site for recipes, events and resources.

5 Easy Steps to Make This YOUR Year of Wellness
In my practice, I work with each client as an individual and create wellness plans based on his/her unique needs. But there are some general strategies that are helpful for just about anyone.
  1. Get a physical and labs. If it's been a while since you've had lab work done, it's a good idea to check in with your doctor for some basic tests that can tell you more about your current state of wellness. At the bare minimum, I usually suggest patients request fasting blood glucose, lipids (cholesterol), vitamin D and sometimes thyroid (TSH, T4 and T3). Be sure to ask for a copy of your labs and keep them in your wellness file.
  2. Write down your wellness goals. It's a wellGoals known fact that the simple act of writing down your goals makes you much more likely to achieve those goals. Start by clearly defining what optimal wellness means to you and then write down specific goals related to eating, exercising, sleeping and stress management. (e.g. I will eat a balanced breakfast at least five days a week).
  3. Take action every month. In the best-selling book "The Happiness Project," the author focuses on a few manageable action items each month to propel her toward her larger goals. So for example, if a goal is to cook and eat at home more often, perhaps you make a plan to do all of your shopping and prep work on Sunday mornings for the whole month of February and see what kind of an impact that has on reaching your goal.
  4. Be accountable. Accountability is the number one reason clients come to see me for assistance with weight loss. Generally speaking, it's more effective to be accountable to someone other than yourself. So share your goals with as many people as possible and look for ways to build some accountability into your wellness plan.
  5. Ask for support. Making lifestyle changes requires effort, dedication and patience. It's also much easier if you have a good support system in place. Communicate your goals with your family and friends and be specific about the kind of support you need from them. And remember that there's no shame in asking for help from a professional when you need some external guidance and support.
