Record number of visiting boaters Labor Day Weekend
Bremerton and Port Orchard Marinas were filled with visiting boaters this summer. In addition to bringing revenue to our marinas, these visitors spent money in restaurants, stores and on entertainment during their visit. Plus, we get wonderful comments about what a great destination this is. They'll be back!

Changing the Map
Following the 2010 census, the Port, like every other governing body, is  required to review its elected officials' district boundaries and adjust as needed to balance the populations. The proposed boundary changes are on the Port's website and were reviewed at a public hearing. The commissioners will vote at their October 11 meeting on whether to approve the recommended new boundaries.  Public input is invited.

Critters not welcome on the runway
A new wildlife fence is nearing completion at Bremerton National Airport. Funded by the FAA, the fence prevents deer and other wildlife from entering the airport and walking onto the runway - creating a hazard to aircraft.

Remember to vote
Residents of the Port district will be receiving ballots to vote for a new commissioner in District 3 (Portions of South Kitsap, Southwest Bremerton, Seabeck, Holly, and Crosby), Current District 3 Commissioner Bill Mahan has announced his retirement.

Boeing 737 Max
Let's build it right here

Boeing  is now analyzing whether or not to build  Boeing 737 Max, the newest version of its 737, in Renton (where the current model is assembled) or at another location in Washington or somewhere else in the United States.

The Port of Bremerton and Kitsap County government and business leaders are providing information and developing strategic approaches to recruit Boeing to locate a new plant  in SKIA (South Kitsap Industrial Area).

Why are the Port and Kitsap County such an outstanding choice?
  • Trained and talented workforce - The Naval Shipyard, military bases and Olympic College in this county have trained thousands of highly skilled engineering professionals. Having a trained and educated workforce is a big factor in Boeing's decision. More than half of Boeing's current skilled manufacturing workers are nearing retirement age and a next generation of trained professionals must be found.
  • Everything is right here - Bremerton National Airport handles 737 aircraft, and there are hundreds of available acres already zoned for manufacturing in SKIA - right next to the airport. Boeing suppliers could also locate near the plant, there is room for many aerospace related businesses.
  • Transportation - Major highways, rail and airport, (without the I-5 congestion) make shipping easy.
  • Proximity to Renton - Economies exist in having two plants building very similar aircraft near each other. Parts don't have to be shipped across the country, they all would come to the Puget Sound.
  • Lifestyle - Housing is affordable, education is excellent and recreational opportunities are abundant for Boeing workers who would live in Kitsap County.
And, it's not just Boeing. Other aerospace companies and Boeing suppliers could also benefit from locating here in Kitsap County.

We're telling our story to aerospace companies and Boeing - and looking forward to welcoming these companies to the Port. We'll keep you posted on our progress.
