Northeast Florida Hospitals and Health Departments look to the Health Planning Council of Northeast Florida to Serve as the Experts

The Health Planning Council of Northeast Florida has secured a contract to lead nine of Northeast Florida's non-profit hospitals through a comprehensive community health needs assessment and a Community Health Strategic Plan for Clay, Duval, Nassau, Northern St. Johns and Putnam Counties. This ground-breaking collaborative effort builds on a model that is receiving national recognition as a best practice for unifying community health  and benefit strategies, developing economies of scale, leveraging community assets and developing a unified community health strategy.

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation recently published a new issue brief highlighting several communities around the country where a single hospital is leading a multi-sector community needs assessments to meet the new IRS requirement http://www.rwjf.org/publichealth/product.jsp?id=74014&cid=XEM_A5745

However, no evidence has been found to date indicating that communities other than Northeast Florida are bringing together multiple competing hospitals and county health departments to fulfill the required community benefit health needs assessment.
