 Kick-Off

The Health Planning Council is proud to support Step Out in Nature and its Kick-Off which takes place this Saturday, October 22, from 9-1 at the Jacksonville Arboretum & Gardens. Step Out in Nature is a program of the Jacksonville Arboretum & Gardens that promotes a healthy, active lifestyle through walking the Arboretum's beautiful trails.  It features a Fun & Fitness Competition for Arlington-area Public Elementary School students October 22 - March 9 who will track their steps using the Arboretum's trails for which counts have already been determined, making this an easy way to add more steps to their day.  The Kick-Off Event is free and open to the public and will offer guided tours and fitness walks as well as refreshments and information booths from community groups. Step Out in Nature was created by the Jacksonville Arboretum & Gardens in partnership with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida Foundation and Healthy Jacksonville Childhood Obesity Prevention Coalition to tackle the problem of childhood obesity by making it fun & easy to reach the recommended goal of 10,000 steps a day for weight control: on the Arboretum's walking trails.

The Mission of the Health Planning Council of Northeast Florida, Inc. is to develop regional, unbiased research and evidence-based initiatives that promote healthy communities, lifestyles and improve accessible, quality health care.
