Health Planning Council of Northeast Florida
The Youth Sport Related Concussion Study Set for Release in June 4, 2011

The Health Planning Council of Northeast Florida along with 20 members of the Youth Sport Related Concussion Study Group met in St. Augustine this past Tuesday to review the secondary data collected on ED and admission rates for youth sport related concussions occurring in children between the ages of 10-18.  Preliminary findings revealed an incredible need for further research and funding, lack of comprehensive concussion data (hospitals, urgent care centers, pediatrician offices, schools, local athletic associations etc...), the need for improved and consistent documentation and policies, and more community and professional education on the immediate and long term effects of concussions on our children.

The Health Planning Council plans to release the entire report of findings including the Study Group's recommendations and call to action on June 4, 2011 at the Jacksonville Sports Medicine Program's 2011 Concussion Summit at Brook Rehabilitation Hospital.  Concussion Summit sponsorship opportunities are still available.  Please contact Robert R.
