Dan Burden is an internationally recognized authority on livable and sustainable communities, healthy streets, traffic calming, and bicycle and pedestrian programs. Dan will discuss the health impacts of the built environment, programs, best practices, active community environments, implementation strategies and interagency coordination.
Dan will also host a workshop and walking audit on Friday, October 22nd, 2010. This training will include:
· A look at current policy, practices and achievements as they relate to individual and community health.
· A discussion with attendees to understand policy, projects and to assess project scheduling.
· An introduction to the principles of Smart Growth and Living Streets, including a review of best practices from around the world
· A Walking Audit in which participants will tour areas and assess the street conditions, motorists' behaviors, and pedestrian and bicyclist challenges on-site.
