What is the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS)?

The YRBS was developed by the Division of Adolescent and School Health (DASH), National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to monitor priority health risk behaviors of middle and high school students that contribute to the leading causes of mortality, morbidity, and social problems among youth and adults in the United States.

 

Which risk behaviors are addressed on the YRBS?

·         Behaviors that result in intentional injuries and violence;

·         Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug use;

·         Sexual behaviors that result in HIV infection, other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), and unintended pregnancies;

·         Unhealthy dietary behaviors; and

·         Physical inactivity.
