Supervisory and Leadership Certificate |
Educational Outreach has partnered with LERN (Learning Resource Network), the leading international association in lifelong learning, to offer a new Skills for the 21st Century online certificate program! Your employees are your most valuable resource. Ensuring the efficiency of your team is the key to your success and is your most important responsibility. Get practical, easy to understand, and insightful methods for new or experienced supervisors and managers. Lean about effective delegation, performance management, and writing performance reviews. Discuss the specifics of the supervisor's role and responsibilities, and strategies for improving your overall effectiveness as a leader. Take home practical information along with tips and techniques that can be applied at your job immediately. This certificate is composed of four units:
Understanding the Role of the Supervisor Covers the specifics of the supervisor's role and responsibilities, and strategies for improving your overall effectiveness as a leader. Discussion and workshop exercises illustrate ways to save time and effort by understanding the benefits of the functions of management and how to leverage each for maximum productivity. This training is a MUST for new or experienced supervisors and managers.
Effective Delegation Discusses the numerous benefits of delegation, why it is so hard for leaders to do effectively, and what you and your staff can gain from delegation. Exercises include practice using the 6-step Delegation Model. Participants are encouraged to use any example from work they feel can help them improve their delegation skills.
Performance Management Outlines how to identify, define, and address poor as well as proficient behaviors to facilitate maximum employee performance and engagement. Techniques include how to recognize problem behavior before it progresses, how to reward the right behavior, and ways to motivate strong performers other than pay.
Writing Performance Reviews
Demystifies the process by providing simple step-by-step methods for identifying what to include in a review, how to deal with specific performance issues, how to keep track of accomplishments and problems during the year, and motivate employees through goal setting, and how to deliver the review once it is complete.

| eMarketing Essentials |
|
BHSU's Educational Outreach, in partnership with LERN (Learning Resource Network), now offers a new Skills for the 21st Century online certificate program. Earn an eMarketing Essentials certificate by taking three one-month courses in any order. You may also take individual courses.
Get a fundamental yet advanced introduction to eMarketing, including improving email promotions, analyzing your web site traffic, doing search engine optimization, and successfully utilizing online advertising. These online courses are relevant for any type of organization, including businesses, non-profits, and government agencies. No prior eMarketing experience or expertise is necessary. If you are already at an advanced level, your instructors are experts and can provide the latest most advanced information and answer your toughest questions. Earn a certificate in eMarketing Essentials by completing three one-month courses: Improving Email Promotions (offered in February, April, June or September); Boosting Your Website Traffic (offered in March, May, July or October) and Online Advertising (offered in April, June, August and November). No experience necessary, but if you are at an advanced level, your instructor is an SEO expert and can answer your toughest questions as well! This one-month online course starts on March 1, 2010.
Online AdvertisingGet the keys to making online advertising work for you and your organization. See how pay-per-click advertising with Google AdWords works. Find out how to test low budget Adword campaigns. Learn how you can target local audiences. Then discover Facebook advertising and how you can determine the demographics and even numbers of people you want to reach. No experience necessary, but if you are at an advanced level, your instructor is an online ad expert and can answer your toughest questions as well! This one-month online course starts on April 5, 2010.

| Hospitality and Casino Management |
Educational Outreach is excited to offer a Hospitality and Casino Management online certificate program which will prepare participants to work in the rapidly expanding gaming field with an emphasis on Tribal Government Gaming Enterprises. This online program covers all aspects of the casino operations and departments. Combining general business and management courses with casino-specific skill level and management courses, participants will be prepared for an entry level position or advancement within the industry. In addition to acquiring general business and management skills, participants will become familiar with the hospitality environment, and will understand the basic regulatory issues, including the terminology and implications for game protection. This online program will prepare graduates to develop and lead world class hospitality services and value-added customer partnerships. The intended audience for this program is individuals who are interested in entering the hospitality industry, or those who work in the hospitality and casino industries that wish to develop a foundation in the skills and knowledge to better prepare for supervisory positions.
Upon successful completion of this program, participants will be able to:
- Demonstrate broad-based skills including the application of casino specific management and leadership skills, the ability to apply marketing concepts and define the unique role of Tribal Government Gaming Enterprises within the business and hospitality industry
- Describe the organizational and human aspects of the quality service in the hospitality industry to include key concepts of ethics, change management, communication, and managing resistance within today's organizations
- Demonstrate and understand fundamental accounting and financial management concepts
- Identify and develop the core concepts of customer service awareness and be able to provide a positive customer service attitude in all casino operations
- Identify staffing needs within the organizational structure of typical gaming operations
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of the law, the court system and procedure as they pertain to hospitality and casino concerns.
