Gibson Hybrids coming to your parking lot soon!
Reducing energy usage is becoming an increasingly important part of what Gibson Engineering does every day. It started with helping our customers find ways of increasing efficiency and reducing energy consumption to make them more productive and environmentally conscious companies.
With 13 cars in our fleet traveling over 447,000 miles each year the recent conversion to the Toyota Prius Hybrids will increase our MPG by 280%, resulting in a reduction of over 42 tons of CO2 being emitted each year.

Intelligent Actuator - Mini Electric ROBO Cylinder (featured at our RORO-Expo in Nashua, NH on June 23, 2010)
Shaped like an air cylinder and easy to use the new Mini-ROBO Cyinder has acheived smaller size with significantly reduced overall length, width and height which are comparable to air cylinders. Users who are comfortable with the handling and operation of pneumatic systems are now able to switch to ROBO Cylinders effortlessly.

Environmental Benefits = Business Benefits (A Comparison of Electric vs. Air Actuators)
Energy is not a fixed cost, but rather a variable cost and there are
many ways to improve energy efficiency such as turning off or dimming
the lights when not needed, setting computers to hibernate when not in
use, changing to more energy efficient light bulbs and introducing
energy efficient strategies in automation. Using energy in an efficient manner will cut running costs and benefit
the environment and as a result, can significantly boo st the image of a
business in the public eye. With this said, it is clear and essential that we see the convergence of
environmental and business needs are indeed in sync.
With air cylinders, a compressor is operated with electricity to
generate compressed air, and generated air is supplied though a line to
the air cylinder where it is then converted to linear-motion force.
This mechanism is subject to significant energy loss. With IAI Electric
Actuators, revolutions of electric motors are mechanically converted to
linear-motion force, which minimizes energy loss. The running cost
(energy cost) of IAI Electric Actuators are 1/3 to 1/10th the cost of an
air cylinder (based on IAI's internal test).

Schmalz - Intelligent Vacuum Generators
Conventional vacuum generators use compressed air during the entire vacuum cycle, using up to 98% more compressed air than necessary. The Schmalz SMPi senses when the defined vacuum level is achieved and then the vacuum switch sends a signal to the integrated control unit, which causes the control unit to deactivate the suction via the solenoid valve. The vacuum level is held via a check valve, if leakage occurs the vacuum switch detects it and activates suction for a split-second via the control unit until the defined vacuum level is reached saving on air consumption and costs.

The Vision Show held at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, MA was a huge hit with both attendees and exhibitors. Attendance doubled from the 2009 show and the positive response to the show and conference parallels the recovery of the market and growth in the industries seeking vision solutions. We had significant interest in the Cognex Track and Trace solution for addressing traceability in the Pharma industry and the anticipation over the soon to be released 5 mega pixel camera was significant.
