An Old-Fashioned Fair for the Whole Family and Seedling Sale
Natick Community Organic Farm will be hosting a family day on Saturday, May 21st from 10am to 3pm - rain or shine! Events include a goat milking demo, sheep shearing demo, ice cream making and much more. Click here for further information including admission fees. |
Smolak Farms Opens to the Public on May 6th
In celebration of the farm's opening on Friday, May 6th from 7am - 5pm, free hayrides will be available all day as well as free crafts and games in the 103- year-old barn for children from 10am - 2pm. Smolak's world famous cider donuts will also be available for only half price. For a complete list of activites please click here. |

Gardening Class for Youth at Verrill Farm
This 20-week class will provide young people with a successful and productive hands-on learning experience growing their own vegetables. The class begins Saturday, May 7th, and the cost is $250 per student which includes instruction, individual prepared plot, and all materials. Class size is limited to 20 students. Summer Graduate Course
The Mass Ag in the Classroom's Summer Graduate Course is now in it's 6th year. It is held in collaboration with Fitchburg State College. This 3-credit graduate course, titled "Growing Agriculture in the Classroom", uses Massachusetts farms as the classrooms. Farm workshops may cover topics such as farm animals, local foods, nutrition, plant science, soils, technology, water, sustainable agriculture and more. The fee is $500, which includes all materials, farm workshops, meals, and 3 graduate credits. For more information click here. |
Asparagus Festival
Verrill Farm will host the Asparagus Festival on Saturday, May 28th at 11am. A trip to the asparagus field will be led by Steve Verrill followed by an asparagus themed buffet lunch under tents at the stand. Chef Kevin Carey will lend preparation and cooking tips. Everyone leaves with a bunch of fresh Verrill Farm asparagus. Reservations are required - fee is $25. Please call 978-369-4494 by May 27th. |

Did You Know That ....
Female farm operators account for 29% of the farm operators in Massachusetts. The number of women farmers in Massachusetts was double the national average of 14 percent in 2007. The average farm operator has been on the same farm for 21 years and is 56.3 years old.
