Northeast Harvest Ag Day
Northeast Harvest Buy Local is hosting Ag Day on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 from 9 AM to 3 PM at Coolidge Hall at the Topsfield Fairgrounds, inviting farmers, farmers' markets, agricultural commissioners, state officials, and legislators from Middlesex and Essex Counties. Join Essex County Farm Bureau President Lisa Colby, Massachusetts Farm Bureau President Rich Bonanno, MDAR Commissioner Scott Soares, and Essex National Heritage Marketing Director Mary Williamson for the latest in farming news and techniques. Spray credits have been applied for (two different sessions available), morning coffee and lunch will be served, and farm kits will be distributed. Click here for online or mail-in registration. |
Energy Grants to Farms Announced
Grants awarded by the Department of Agricultural Resources (DAR) totaling $248,124 will fund a number of energy efficiency initiatives including projects at three Northeast Harvest farms."By helping farmers reduce costs, improve efficiency and become more energy independent, the Department's energy grants show our continued commitment to ensuring the economic and environmental viability of Massachusetts agriculture,"DAR Commissioner Scott Soares said. Funding for the grants comes from the $1.7 billion Energy and Environment Bond Bill signed by Governor Deval Patrick in August 2008. Read entire Presss Release.

Paisley Farm was founded in 1932 and continues to be worked by the fourth generation of Paisely family members, Bill and daughter Debi. The five acre Paisley Farm and Greenhouse will officially open its 2010 season this month, selling most of what is grown at the farm stand. The Paisley family takes great pride in bringing top quality plants and produce to the community. Make sure that the beauty and wonderful diversity of Massachusetts' agricultural heritage is duly recognized. The Special Commission Relative to Designating 1000 Great Places in Massachusetts was created by an Act of the Legislature and signed into law by Governor Deval Patrick on January 15, 2009. Its mission is to identify and recognize the 1000 most truly special places in the Commonwealth, in order to celebrate pride in our history and culture, increase knowledge of our natural surroundings, and encourage regional and international tourism.
