OUR MISSION STATEMENT

As part of the Body of Christ and this congregation,

we will faithfully participate in the ministries of the church

by our prayers, our presence, our giving, and our service,

so that through our witness, we can lead others in becoming

Library Book Review

BOOK REVIEW:

3/31/11  Fearless. Max Lucado. One of his latest books defines fear and how according to Jesus it is possible to have faith as your default feelings instead of fear when it comes to threats in your life. We face a world wrought with threats: job loss, poor economy, catastrophes of nature & weather, loss of loved ones, illnesses, to name a few. Other things are less tangible: violence, disappointment, being a nobody, or being unloved. But according to Lucado, by relying on Jesus and the power of God, we can fear less tomorrow than we do today. Read William's psalm at the end and use the study guide for deeper understanding. Christian non-fiction. *****

John's Epistle

High and Holy

This Sunday, April 17, marks the beginning of the most important and reverent of times in the life of the church, as we celebrate Palm Sunday and start Holy Week. As usual, our worship life will be very full during Holy Week, so I'm taking time in this edition of the newsletter to make sure you're aware of all the opportunities you'll have to grow closer to God and celebrate the Passion and Triumph of Christ.

Palm Sunday, April 17: Both worship services will include something special this week! The 8:30 worship service will include some special music, while those attending 11:00 worship will have the chance to see and participate in the traditional Procession of Palms. Following the late service, the entire congregation is invited to join in the Palm Sunday Fellowship Lunch, featuring the famous "Egg Scramble" and games for Children. Bring your kids and grandkids-heck, borrow some children if you need to-and join in the fun!

Holy Wednesday, April 20: Consider this your invitation to join the Pastor's Bible Study at 6:00 PM in the Sojourner's Classroom for a special Holy Week edition! We will walk our way through the story of the Last Supper, Good Friday, and Resurrection of Jesus the Christ. Even if you can't commit to being with us on a regular basis, make the extra effort to join us this week as we delve deeply into the ultimate story of Christian Faith.

Holy Thursday, April 21: Two important things to remember for this evening! First, the entire congregation is invited to the Seder Remembrance Celebration at 6:00 PM in Wesley Hall. Our Confirmation Class will lead us through a brief reenactment of the meal that was the basis for Jesus' last meal with his disciples on the night he was arrested, opening up much of the meaning of the symbols of the crucifixion for those attending. Following the Seder

Remembrance, join us for a meaningful hour of worship at 7:00 PM in the Sanctuary as we celebrate the darkness of Holy Thursday and share in Communion together.

Good Friday, April 22: One of the most powerful nights of the year for Christians around the world, we will remember the Passion of our Lord in a service that recounts the last hours of Christ's life leading to his death on the cross. The service will include the opportunity to come forward for prayer and anointing, as we give thanks for Jesus' sacrifice for our sins.

Easter Sunday, April 24: Hallelujah! He is Risen indeed! Celebrate the Resurrection of Christ on the most holy day of the year at one-or more-of our three Easter morning worship opportunities, including:

Easter "SonRise" Service at 7:00 AM, led by our youth in a contemporary worship style,

8:30 AM worship featuring our Chancel Choir and special music with guitar and piano, and

Traditional 11:00 AM worship with music led by our Choir.

In addition to these great worship and study opportunities, you'll also have the chance to register on both Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday to be part of "Go and Be," a day of service scheduled for the Saturday following Easter. Plan to join with dozens of other members of our Church Family and other Garland churches on April 30 as we witness to our faith in Christ by serving our community together as the Body of Christ! There is no better way to celebrate the Resurrection.

Please don't miss these wonderful opportunities to worship as part of the Buckingham Church Family! We are so blessed to have such a warm, inviting, community at Buckingham, and we want to include everyone in this Holy Week together.

Grace and peace,

Pastor John
