For several years now the Lutheran Hispanic Missionary Institute, in conjunction with Ysleta Lutheran Mission Human Care, has offered Spanish Language Training classes in El Paso, TX. The goal of the classes is to prepare students to begin to converse in Spanish and participate in Hispanic ministry in their home area. Students will also begin to understand the lives and backgrounds of their Hispanic neighbors.

        The language instruction is provided by Language Plus, a language institute located in El Paso that also trains the FBI and Border Patrol. The teachers at this institute value practice over theory. The great majority of the class time involves students speaking and honing their skills rather than passively sitting at a desk and learning grammar. All levels of experience with the Spanish Language are welcome from beginners to experts.

        Part of the learning takes place in the classroom and part takes place out in the El Paso community. Additional instruction addresses areas unique to Hispanic culture, methods for engaging people in ministry, and singing in Spanish.
