Huck Loves Kids
SOME STUFF FROM STEPHANIE
Thanks to all the kids that contributed to build our new mobile computer lab!   Our goal was for each child to earn $10 for reading over the summer.   With 180 kids last semester, we had hoped to earn $1,800 to start buying laptops and software to enhance our classes!  But these kids really went out of their way to help us out!   As of 9/30/09, the kids have collected $2,926!!!  We will start to see the new laptops in October and November.  Congratulations and THANK YOU to all the kids that have helped us so far!   If you still have earnings to send in, we are still accepting funds, but we'll start planning and shopping now!

Thank You:

SPOTLIGHT ON:  DESIGN STUDIO WITH KRIS DOYLE
This semester we invented a new class called The Design Studio. Inspired by Dan Pink's newest book A Whole New Mind, the class involves many teachers and many design experiences.    The idea is that the skills that brought success in the past are not the only skills that will be necessary in our future.   Design is a whole new area where many opportunities will emerge!  We need cars to be redesigned, cell phones, electronics, homes, shoes - you name it!   Design is one of the new skills that will be a significant force in our future.  To introduce the idea of design, the students have started out working with Master Costumer Whiz Kris Doyle!  Kris has costumed many of our own theatrical events and other theatrical events.  She showed the kids how new costumes can be made from treasures found at 2nd hand stores, taught basic pattern design and reading, basic costume design on paper and more!   The costumes are almost complete - just in time for Halloween!   Next, we will move on to interior design where the students will learn all about styles of furniture and the basics of layout before they design their own room and create a swatch board of fabrics, furniture styles, trims and more that would be used in their perfect room!    With our new computer lab, the Design Studio will be able to go technical next semester!  Come check it out!

Here is an easy way for you to support Huckleberry without changing anything that you normally do.  This is a simple and painless fundraiser!  All you need to do is
1. go to www.escrip.com
2. designate Huckleberry as your selected group
3. register your grocery cards and/or your debit/credit cards.
That's it!  Every time you use those cards, Huckleberry gets a percentage!  One of the great things about this fundraiser is that your friends, family and neighbors can also register no mater what state they live in.  You and your friends and family can also go to the escrip mall to do your online shopping - you'll find merchants such as Expedia, JC Penny, Staples, Six Flags and more.  If you already use eScrip for another group, you can still help Huckleberry as you are allowed to designate up to 3 groups to support.

Please register today - all our great Huckleberry teachers will appreciate your support!   Drop this coupon into the payment box to receive your credit!
