2011 Wine of the year !
We at the Mighty Oak Barrel have our own end of the year wine award! We search each year for the best wine in its category at the best price point. This year we have selected: Fess Parker Winery , The Big Easy, 2007
Since its launch in 2004, The Big Easy has been well received by critics and beloved consumers. Although the wine is stylistically very different from their Rodney's Vineyard syrah, over the years there have been inevitable comparisons. In order to differentiate the two wines and add "a little jazz" to their line-up, the Parker family developed a new package for The Big Easy that returns this wine to its roots, so to speak. The label features the original piece "Bourbon Street Dazzle" by artist, Donna Millsap, and depicts a classic New Orleans street scene; a vibrant French Quarter at night; when the city comes alive with jazz, the smell of Creole cuisine and a multitude of people in the mood to celebrate life. Facts: The Big Easy $59 Santa Barbara County 100% from Camp Four Vineyard located in the Santa Ynez Valley 92% Syrah & 8% Grenache Notes of Blueberry, Blackberry, Smoked Meat, Lavender and Vanilla found on the nose along with flavors of Black Cherry, Blackberry Compote, Cinnamon & Vanilla on the palate. Enjoy this Meaty, Well Structured blend to long lengthy finish with its dense chocolaty tannins.

JANUARY WINE TASTING , STILL ROOM.... JAN. 19TH & 20TH Welcome to The Mighty Oak Barrel January, 2011 Wine Tasting Featuring : ~ Warm Winter Red Blends
Brassfield Estate , Eruption Volcano Ridge Volcano Ridge Vineyard is located at the steep slopes of an extinct cinder cone that rise to 2200 feet above sea level. The pure volcanic soils, or "tephra", are extremely well-drained and are ideal for vine stress and restricting crop yields. Mourvedre, Syrah, Grenache and Petite Syrah are artfully blended to create a symphonic eruption of aromas and flavors in the glass. Ripe plums dominate the nose along with smoky tar, cedar, cigar box and toffee nuances. PAIRED WITH: Tamarind Glazed Flank Steak, Baby Spinach & Arugula salad with a Plum Vinaigrette.
Lyeth Estate, Fleur de Lyeth Fleur de Lyeth is a sophisticated California wine that achieves Lyeth's mission of blending style, family, tradition and value. Opening with luscious flavors of bing cherry and plum with a touch of strawberry and cherry cordial, the wine is perfectly balanced by a subtle oak backdrop. The proprietary blend is of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec . . PAIRED WITH: Phyllo Wrapped Chicken with a Melbec Sabayon.
Raymond Winery, R Collection Field Blend The 2008 R Collection Field Blend brings together 7 varietals, thus the reference to Lot 7 on the front label. The core 5 varietals providing the foundation include Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Zinfandel, Merlot, and Petite Sirah, with a touch of Carignane and Mourvedre to add layers of complexity to the wine.
Flavors of tangy raspberries, fresh-picked blueberries, and ground white peppercorns explode in your mouth, with a delightfully rich profile from the front of the palate through the back. PAIRED WITH: Grilled Portobello Stack, with Balsamic & White Pepper Gastrique.
