Some lived in abandoned cars; others in tents along the river for much of their lives. Today, fifty-four Kentucky families are residing in new rental communities due to the commitment of Kentucky River Community Care (KRCC) and its investor partners, VCDC and Federation of Appalachian Housing Enterprises (FAHE).
Red Bud and Mulberry House, two properties developed by KRCC using federal low-income housing tax credits, are serving some of the poorest areas of the state according to Sharon Hendrickson, KRCC's Director of Property Management. Ms. Hendrickson recently expressed gratitude to VCDC and FAHE for their commitment to KRCC's projects. Red Bud and Mulberry offer in some cases the only rental housing in KRCC's rural service area. VCDC and FAHE committed investments of $5.8 Million in the two projects through Kentucky Equity Fund I. Additionally since their initial investment in 2007, VCDC and FAHE have committed over $25 Million in Kentucky projects through two equity funds.
Recently, KRCC received the 2010 Nonprofit Organization Award at the Kentucky Affordable Housing Conference in Louisville. Kentucky Housing Corporation (KHC), the conference host and state housing finance agency, sponsored the awards to honor nonprofit organizations, builders, and others who have made outstanding contributions to the state's affordable housing industry in the last year.
Congratulations KRCC! |
