Special Initiatives Grant Supports Virginia Supportive Housing
Community Garden Development
Many stakeholders recently celebrated the official opening of the Cloverleaf Community Garden at Cloverleaf Apartments in Virginia Beach, VA.

The garden design and development was a collaborative effort involving Cloverleaf residents, Little Creek Navy personnel and their families, Virginia Supportive Housing staff, area residents Andrew Friedman and Barbara Schaefer (the project visionaries, designers and developers), local merchants and funding supporters, and a Special Initiatives grant from VCDC to purchase a garden storage shed.

The Hampton Roads Community Foundation provided over $15,890 for garden development and the Virginia Beach Department of Parks and Recreation donated garden materials and built a perimeter fence for the project.  Richmond-based Virginia Supportive Housing served as the developer of Cloverleaf Apartments which consists of sixty efficiency apartments with supportive services for formerly homeless adults.
