Pacific Destinations - The Westcoast Wire

Vancouver, Olympic Cauldron, Whistler

February 2010

Greetings!

The pulse in Vancouver and Whistler was certainly racing prior to the opening of the 2010 Winter Games but few anticipated the incredible energy that has conquered our city since February 12th. On a world wide scale Vancouver may be considered a relatively small city but it holds the title as the largest city to ever host a Winter Olympic Games. Our unique landscape, set upon a small peninsula on the Pacific Ocean, and overlooked by the 100 million year old Coastal Mountain Range, makes for a truly unique and inspiring backdrop as we continue to welcome the world to our doorstep.

As the games come to a close in a few short days, and we ready ourselves for the Paralympic Games, we want to share with you some of our highlights and the legacy that will remain for our visitors for many years to come.

The team at Pacific Destination Services would like to invite you to Western Canada so that we may share our playground with you.

Bar DecorNBC Universal - Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver
Pacific Destinations was fortunate to be selected as NBC Universal's Destination Management and Event partner during the 2010 Winter Games. The Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver was designated as the network's host hotel and headquarters for over 1600 NBC executives and their top customers. The ballroom, foyer and other public space was completely transformed into a luxury lounge complete with a built in 16ft tall by 20ft long custom built bar, registration, security, greeting and dining areas. Orchestrated by Pacific Destinations, the multi day installation was seamlessly blended with the hotel's decor including new furniture, artwork, extensive wall treatments and lighting. As the home away from home for many incredibly busy NBC executives and guests, it was a welcome retreat backed by the impeccable service of the Four Seasons Vancouver Hotel team.

NBC Offsite VenueNBC Universal - Hosted off site events
As the official US broadcaster of the 2010 Games NBC plays host to a series of events at a legendary off site venue on vibrant Granville Street. Set in the heart of all the Olympic action, the 1000 person venue, home to Vancouver's most celebrated concerts, was given a sleek and sexy makeover. As the doors were opened, guests found themselves entering a multi level room outfitted with floor to ceiling silver drape, lounges separated by dramatic chain curtains, flex LED light panels and comfortable, inviting furniture. Five food stations highlighted everything from Pacific Ocean delights to a tempting late night ice cream bar.
Lasting Legacies...
Richmond Olympic Oval Hosting the world's largest sporting event has allowed for many beneficial changes in Vancouver and Whistler. Stunning new hotels such as the Fairmont Pacific Rim, billion dollar highway improvements that substantially shorten drive times to Whistler, new venues such as Whistler's Sliding Centre and Medals Plaza and high speed airport trains are but a few of the recent changes to be enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. While the games are the obvious focus, our Cultural Olympiad, new vibrant art installations and musical showcasing will continue long past the games. Enjoy!
