About the Cherokee Rose

In 1916, the Cherokee Rose was named the state flower. The name "Cherokee Rose" is a local designation derived from the Cherokee Indians who widely distributed the plant along the "Trail of Tears" in memory of those who did not survive the long journey to Oklahoma.
