Greetings!
Anticipation is one of the descriptive words for the Advent season. I have to say it is a good word for this Sunday's Christmas Music Festival. It seems like nearly everyone knows the answer to the question, "Where will you be at 4:30 on Sunday the 13th?" If you have not answered the question yet, it is time to make your plans! Reed Alberg tells us there are twenty-two groups or soloists on the schedule with just over two hours of continuous Christmas music. All the cooks are lined up, groups with various responsibilities are ready. Supplies are purchased. The weather forecast even sounds better for Sunday! So, fix a dessert, invite a friend, dress casually, and come as early as 4:00. I anticipate great music, warm friends, and good food!
As we approach the end of 2009 we all know it has been a year of financial challenge for the church. I am very hopeful we can make some progress on the apportionment part of our mission budget. A good December will certainly make a positive difference. Remembering "The Power of One", any extra contribution you may make between now and the end of the year will help. Also, your Finance Committee is in the process of planning for 2010. Having a clear picture of financial projections is very helpful. Have you returned you 2010 Stewardship Commitment form? If you have, thank you! If you have not returned it yet, please place it in the offering at one of the worship services, or mail it to the church office.
Plans are progressing for "Leading the Way" a leadership development program which begins January 9th. Are you interested in knowing more? Please call me, or Rev. Karen, and we will visit with you.
I hope to see you this weekend in worship and later at the Christmas Music Festival. Grace and Peace to You, Steve Campbell |

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
CHRISTMAS TOOL TREE
Give a gift this Christmas season that keeps on giving. Help Truman Heritage Habitat for Humanity in their quest to build 40 homes in 5 years in Eastern Jackson County.
To participate, select a paper ornament from our "Tool Tree" located in the narthex. Remove the ornament from the tree and purchase the item or gift card listed. Place your purchase under the tree by December 24. Habitat tool trailers have been stolen or broken into twice in the past 3 months. These trailers have been locked and fenced at their office, but still they have lost several $$$ worth of tools. Let's help replace and improve the tool inventory.
Let's make this the best Habitat Tool Drive ever. |

Please join the FUMC Job Club for a special presentation by local author and speaker, Marty Stanley, at 7:00pm on Tuesday, December 15. Her presentation entitled Get Out of B.E.D. (Blame, Excuses, and Denial) can help you change your outlook and alter your outcomes. This is the perfect time of year to take accountability for your thoughts, words and actions. Marty will help you look at proven strategies to make life a little easier - not only for you, but for everyone around you. If you want to raise the bar in your personal and professional life, Get Out of B.E.D. is for you. In this lively, interactive program, Marty guides you through the thought process that helps you identify what holds you back from the success you know is possible both at work and at home. You will walk away inspired and motivated to take positive and sustainable action with the people in your life, and break through the barriers to success. Please join us for this special presentation in room 103 at 7:00pm, Tuesday, December 15. For additional information, contact Randy Williams, 229-9584. |
Won't You Donate an Item (or Two) for
FUMC's Fabulous February Auction? In February, our church is planning a BIG fund-raising auction in the Family Life Center, with live and silent auction action, to raise funds for the Costa Rica Reverse Mission Trip you've been hearing so much about. The task force is already at work and has made great progress on getting exciting donations from local businesses, including some much sought-after autographed sports memorabilia. But we know you may have some items gathering dust in a closet or you may have connections to an area business that might be willing to help us out. If you'd like to help, let us know:
-Do you have a brand-new item of some value you would like to donate? -Have any gift cards or gift certificates sitting around that you probably won't use? -Do you have any collectibles you would be willing to part with? -Does your employer have a product or service he or she would be willing to donate? -Would you like to take a territory in or around Blue Springs and ask businesses for donations?
Please contact Jack Marker, 229-9510, or Ken Landes, 229-5712, to volunteer or to share your ideas or donations.
