Bell Choirs
Bell Choirs have resumed their rehearsal and playing schedule.  The choirs meet at 5:30, 6:30, or 7:30pm each Wednesday and play monthly in our worship services.  If you are interested in joining  one of the choirs, please stop by a rehearsal.  Anyone is welcome to attend and join.  If you have any questions call Kathy Ford, 228-7596, about the 5:30 or 6:30 bell choir or Janie Wilson, 228-0828, about the 7:30 bell choir.
Greetings!

Hopefully you have received the First Connection by now. If you have received it and you read my letter this will not be news to you. If you don't know it already, I am sharing it with you now. I am making November a month of saying "Thank You". Please understand I say thank you quite often. In my own estimation I am as polite as the next guy. My parents taught me the magic words. Those would be please and thank you. So this is not a radical departure from my usual behavior. I just think it is time for a special emphasis.

I am inviting you to join me for this special emphasis. It will do us both good. I begin with a rather simple observation about life. We all have some problems. It doesn't take very many to gain our attention. Once the negative things gain our focus, that attitude begins to affect everything in our life. The other side of my assertion is simply that we all have enough blessing to find reason for thanksgiving. Sometimes all it takes is to pay attention, and suddenly we are amazed at the goodness of our lives. The more we say thanks, the more reasons we see to give thanks.

So, if you join me there will be a trend toward more thanks.  If you invite someone to join you, there might be a movement. If they invite someone, there could be an awakening! It could be big! Well, even if it doesn't become a movement, I am going to do it. Life just feels better when you say "Thank You!"
Gratefully,
Steve Campbell

  "What If......?"
At the 2009 Missouri Annual Conference, our Bishop asked us all to ponder the question, "Would our Church be growing or dying if every member made the same efforts that I do?" It is a penetrating question which also leads us to affirm that each of us makes a difference! It really demonstrates "The Power of One."  Each meditation focuses on one aspect of our membership vows. So, they lift up praying, attending, giving, serving, and witnessing. As you read one meditation a day, ask yourself, "What if every member prays, attends, gives, serves and witnesses like I do? What is our future?"  The 30 readings contained in this booklet are intended to help each of us grow in these areas of discipleship.

In the worship services on November 21 and 22, we will open the altar to come forward in prayer and renew our commitment in these areas of discipleship. All of them are essential. You are also asked to bring your 2010 financial commitment to be dedicated at one of those services.

What if.... every member of First Church started prayerfully considering these reflections each day for 30 days? And what if ....we each renewed our commitment to pray, attend, give, serve, and witness?

Additional devotion books can be picked up at the information table in the church lobby.
