Bell Choirs
Bell Choirs have resumed their rehearsal and playing schedule.  The choirs meet at 5:30, 6:30, or 7:30pm each Wednesday and play monthly in our worship services.  If you are interested in joining  one of the choirs, please stop by a rehearsal.  Anyone is welcome to attend and join.  If you have any questions call Kathy Ford, 228-7596, about the 5:30 or 6:30 bell choir or Janie Wilson, 228-0828, about the 7:30 bell choir.
Greetings!

One of the capacities most essential to being human is memory. Among the building blocks of our individuality are our personal memories. Sometimes to remember enables us to find clarity, peace, gratitude, even discover new possibilities. This weekend we will remember those dear ones who have departed this life to become part of the Church Triumphant. It will not be morbid. It will be somber. It will touch our hearts and even renew our spirits. It is All Saints weekend.

The sermon will lift up Serving from among the several aspects of stewardship. Have you been reading the daily meditations? Hopefully, you have. They have been excellent! Our scripture reading for Worship this weekend is the raising of Lazarus. It is so appropriate for All Saints and for our stewardship emphasis.  Jesus transformed the world as he served others.  Christ calls each of us to give ourselves in ways which transform ourselves and others.

This Sunday evening is our Church Conference. We will join with the folks from North Spring, St. Peter, and Faith. It is at Faith in Grain Valley on AA Highway near Major Road. The time is 6:00pm. Everyone present from FUMC has a vote on our part of the business. I hope you will come. In addition to the regular business, our Superintendent is going to replay a very good program our Bishop presented at the 2009 Annual Conference.

It is still a few weeks away, but time will fly! Do you have the Christmas Music Festival on your calendar? It is December 13, 4:30 to 6:30pm. What an opportunity to introduce a friend to your Church family!

Saturday is trunk or treat. It is a safe, fun, light hearted way for our children to enjoy the day. Bring your children or grandchildren, everyone is welcome. Bring some candy too. You can even decorate the trunk of your car! You can easily stay for the Saturday evening worship at 5:30pm.

Saturday is also the end of Daylight Saving Time. So, set your clock back an hour when you go to bed Saturday night.

Grace and Peace,
Steve Campbell

Moms First
We would like to invite you to participate in a new group especially for "moms" here at FUMC.  If you are a mom of children, newborn through high school, this invitation is for you.  The first gathering will be this Sunday, November 1, at Noon, in room 112. Lunch will be provided, so it will be helpful with planning to let us know if you plan on attending.  Also, if you need childcare, please contact us in advance so childcare arrangements can be made.  You can either call the church at 229-8108 or e-mail Rev. Karen at ktaylor@firstumcbs.org.

  "What If......?"
At the 2009 Missouri Annual Conference, our Bishop asked us all to ponder the question, "Would our Church be growing or dying if every member made the same efforts that I do?" It is a penetrating question which also leads us to affirm that each of us makes a difference! It really demonstrates "The Power of One." During the week of October 18 you will receive a booklet filled with meditations written by members and staff of First United Methodist. Each meditation focuses on one aspect of our membership vows. So, they lift up praying, attending, giving, serving, and witnessing. As you read one meditation a day, ask yourself, "What if every member prays, attends, gives, serves and witnesses like I do? What is our future?"  The 30 readings contained in this booklet are intended to help each of us grow in these areas of discipleship. The readings begin on October 22 and run through November 20. In the worship services on November 21 and 22, we will open the altar to come forward in prayer and renew our commitment in these areas of discipleship. All of them are essential. You are also asked to bring your 2010 financial commitment to be dedicated at one of those services.

What if.... On October 22 every member of First Church started prayerfully considering these reflections each day for 30 days? And what if ....we each renewed our commitment to pray, attend, give, serve, and witness?
