Greetings!

Today, October 22nd, is the day. This is the day we encourage each other to start reading the daily meditations in our stewardship emphasis. You probably received today's reading by email. I trust you either picked up your book last weekend or received it in the mail this week. If you do not have one, please call the office we will provide you a copy. There will also be some copies at the Information Table this weekend. There have already been many very positive comments from persons who have taken a look. I am grateful for the positive comments! Many people have been involved in a number of different ways to produce this resource. I only ask that you use it. Take a few moments each day to read a little, think some, and pray. Those moments will enrich your stewardship and change our church. What if everyone observed these 30 days like you?

Sunday, November 1 is All Saints Day. The weekend of October 31 and November 1 we will remember the saints of First UMC who have entered the church triumphant during the past year. Also, we will add bells to the bell trees in memory of the persons you designate. All Saints day is a very special day in the church year. Memory is one of the key realities making us human. And, to remember is to give thanks. This weekend you can make a very modest donation to have bells added to the tree in honor of someone you love. This special celebration also reminds us there are always those among us who have been touched by loss. It is a present reminder to always pray for them and for each other.

I look forward to seeing you in worship.  I hope today is another step away from fear and into trust for you.

            In Christ,
            Steve Campbell

  "What If......?"
At the 2009 Missouri Annual Conference, our Bishop asked us all to ponder the question, "Would our Church be growing or dying if every member made the same efforts that I do?" It is a penetrating question which also leads us to affirm that each of us makes a difference! It really demonstrates "The Power of One." During the week of October 18 you will receive a booklet filled with meditations written by members and staff of First United Methodist. Each meditation focuses on one aspect of our membership vows. So, they lift up praying, attending, giving, serving, and witnessing. As you read one meditation a day, ask yourself, "What if every member prays, attends, gives, serves and witnesses like I do? What is our future?"  The 30 readings contained in this booklet are intended to help each of us grow in these areas of discipleship. The readings begin on October 22 and run through November 20. In the worship services on November 21 and 22, we will open the altar to come forward in prayer and renew our commitment in these areas of discipleship. All of them are essential. You are also asked to bring your 2010 financial commitment to be dedicated at one of those services.

What if.... On October 22 every member of First Church started prayerfully considering these reflections each day for 30 days? And what if ....we each renewed our commitment to pray, attend, give, serve, and witness?
