Bell Choirs
Bell Choirs have resumed their rehearsal and playing schedule.  The choirs meet at 5:30, 6:30, or 7:30pm each Wednesday and play monthly in our worship services.  If you are interested in joining  one of the choirs, please stop by a rehearsal.  Anyone is welcome to attend and join.  If you have any questions call Kathy Ford, 228-7596, about the 5:30 or 6:30 bell choir or Janie Wilson, 228-0828, about the 7:30 bell choir.
Greetings!

Yesterday was a pretty typical Wednesday evening at First. There was great fellowship around the table for those who came for the meal in room 117. Later, we concluded the final session of "Serving from the Heart". As I left the building there were several persons gathered in 103 visiting and doing crafts. The Cancer Support Group had concluded in room 100. A number of energetic youths were having fun after their Confirmation Class. Several adults were gathering them up to head home. The cars were packed in around the office as persons attended Bell Choir and Chancel Choir practices. I don't know exactly how many people were in the building at any one moment. But, there was something happening in every part of the building. I think there is something here for you too on Wednesday evenings.

Next Wednesday, October 14, Rev. Karen Taylor and I will be starting two new short term classes. Rev. Karen will be doing a class on essential beliefs and practices unique to Methodists, we call it Wesleyan Traditions. I will be leading a class on United Methodist membership.  Rev. Karen's class will be interesting and informative for everyone. If you are a newer member of First, or considering becoming a member, the class I am leading will be for you! I plan to come prepared, but will also let your interests and questions help determine our direction. These two new classes will meet at 6:30. Wesleyan Traditions will meet in room 117. The Membership Class will be in 112. These two classes meet October 14, 21, and 28.

Beginning November 7 we will have a class on The United Methodist Social Principles. It will be lively and informative! Have you ever wondered how the church arrives at its position on a controversial issue? Are you interested in our statement regarding a particular question? This is the class for you! This class will meet in room 117 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.

Remember, you can always make a reservation for a great dinner by calling the office at 229-8108. There is something happening at The Well for you!

Don't forget this is a special weekend. This is Mission Celebration Weekend! Does First UMC connect to the needs of the world? Come see and celebrate our mission involvement!

            Peace be with you,
            Steve Campbell
FALL CLEANUP DAY
The Trustees of First UMC invite everyone to join them on Saturday, October 10, at 9:00am for the annual fall cleanup.  There is plenty of work for everyone.  Come join the fun, fellowship, and service to our church.
Missions Celebration Weekend
This weekend we will celebrate the many ways we are in Mission at FUMC.   A Mission Fair will be out in the narthex with information about various opportunities to be involved in Mission.  Wil Bailey, a missionary in Costa Rica where several mission teams have served, will be at all four services to bring greetings to FUMC.  In worship we will hear about how we are connecting to the world's needs through mission and service.  We look forward to seeing you.
  "What If......?"
At the 2009 Missouri Annual Conference, our Bishop asked us all to ponder the question, "Would our Church be growing or dying if every member made the same efforts that I do?" It is a penetrating question which also leads us to affirm that each of us makes a difference! It really demonstrates "The Power of One." During the week of October 18 you will receive a booklet filled with meditations written by members and staff of First United Methodist. Each meditation focuses on one aspect of our membership vows. So, they lift up praying, attending, giving, serving, and witnessing. As you read one meditation a day, ask yourself, "What if every member prays, attends, gives, serves and witnesses like I do? What is our future?"  The 30 readings contained in this booklet are intended to help each of us grow in these areas of discipleship. The readings begin on October 22 and run through November 20. In the worship services on November 21 and 22, we will open the altar to come forward in prayer and renew our commitment in these areas of discipleship. All of them are essential. You are also asked to bring your 2010 financial commitment to be dedicated at one of those services.
The booklets will be available at the worship gatherings the weekend of October 17 and 18. Volunteers will be in the narthex to help you find yours. If you will pick yours up that weekend, you help save on postage! The booklets not picked up that weekend will be mailed October 19.
What if.... On October 22 every member of First Church started prayerfully considering these reflections each day for 30 days? And what if ....we each renewed our commitment to pray, attend, give, serve, and witness?
