Bell Choirs
Bell Choirs have resumed their rehearsal and playing schedule.  The choirs meet at 5:30, 6:30, or 7:30pm each Wednesday and play monthly in our worship services.  If you are interested in joining  one of the choirs, please stop by a rehearsal.  Anyone is welcome to attend and join.  If you have any questions call Kathy Ford, 228-7596, about the 5:30 or 6:30 bell choir or Janie Wilson, 228-0828, about the 7:30 bell choir.
Greetings!

Recently I announced the beginning of a new program in leadership development for our congregation. The justification for such an effort is self-evident. There are many reasons for us to be thinking about the future and working at identifying, training and nurturing leaders for the church. We have developed an excellent program which will begin early in 2010. Right now we are recruiting the 15 people who will make up the first class. There are informational brochures at the Information Table in the Narthex and also in the Office. If you are interested in knowing more about being included in the group call me, and we will visit about it. Or, you are welcome to contact any of the leaders named on the brochure. This is a unique opportunity. It will not only help you as a leader in the church, it will help you understand and nurture your own leadership style in every area of your life. It will help you understand that leadership is not simply being on a committee or being a chairperson. Leadership takes many forms and leads in a variety of directions. I would love to answer your questions about being involved in this group.

This weekend we will celebrate World Communion Sunday. As we come to the Lord's Table there will be Christians all around the world, from many many different traditions doing the same. The division of the church is a serious matter. This is one visible way we can express our unity with other Christians. Christ would make us one, and this is a way to open ourselves to that oneness. I hope to see you in worship this weekend.

It is not too early to put the Christmas Music Festival on your calendar. It will be December 13th from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. I really look for ward to this event and I hope you do too. Pray about someone you might invite to join you for this very special gathering. What a wonderful way it will be to introduce a friend or family member to First United Methodist!

            Grace and Peace to you,
            Steve

Cancer Support Network
The Cancer Support Network will meet on Wednesday, October  7 at 6:30pm in room 100. We meet monthly on the first Wednesday of each month. This month we are honored to have a great guest speaker, Vangie Rich, the executive director of the R.A. Bloch Cancer Foundation. She will let us know about the information and services the foundation has to offer persons diagnosed with cancer. Please spread the word about our group to others who might have interest in joining us. This is a group for cancer survivors, family members, and those currently experiencing cancer. We look forward to seeing you there.

FESTIVAL OF SHARING
October 17, 2009

It is that time of year again.  Fall is upon us and we all have begun those activities that keep everyone so busy.

As you are running errands or doing your weekly shopping please remember to purchase a few extra items.  Once again First United is putting together DENTAL KITS for the annual Festival of Sharing, Saturday, October 17, in Sedalia.

Dental Kits include:

4-6 soft toothbrushes (include 2 child size)  *unopened packages only
1 dental floss - any size
1 fluoride toothpaste (6 ounces or larger)

Place items inside a 1 - gallon zip-lock bag.

We will be collecting the kits in the Narthex through the weekend of October 10-11.  We collected almost 150 kits last year.   Let's make this the best collection year yet.
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE IN THE CONGREGATION FOR MAKING THIS ANOTHER FIRST UNITED SUCCESS.
