A Prayer for 9/11

Almighty God, the past will be indelibly inscribed in our memories.  We looked with horror on the terrorist attacks of September 11th.  But we looked with honor on acts of courage by ordinary people who sacrificed themselves to prevent further death and destruction.

We shed our tears in a common bond of grief for those we loved and lost.  We journeyed through a dark valley, but your light has led us to a place of hope.  You have turned our grief into determination.  We are resolved to do what is good, and right, and just.

Help us to remember what it means to be Americans-
a people endowed with abundant blessings.  Help us to cherish the freedoms we enjoy and inspire us to stand with courage, united as one Nation in the midst of any adversity.

Lord, hear this prayer for our Nation. Amen.

Bell Choirs
Bell Choirs have resumed their rehearsal and playing schedule.  The choirs meet at 5:30, 6:30, or 7:30pm each Wednesday and play monthly in our worship services.  If you are interested in joining  one of the choirs, please stop by a rehearsal.  Anyone is welcome to attend and join.  If you have any questions call Kathy Ford, 228-7596, about the 5:30 or 6:30 bell choir or Janie Wilson, 228-0828, about the 7:30 bell choir.
Greetings!

Around here this week we are busy going over many of the final preparations for "The Big Day".  I hope you are looking forward to this as much as I am. Have you invited someone to be your guest for these events? I hope you have plans to use this opportunity to introduce another person to your Church family. I know we will be ready to make them welcome!

We will be having the regular Saturday evening worship service. You are invited to attend Saturday evening worship and then return on Sunday morning for all or part of the activities. Sunday School is at 9:00. Worship is at 10:30. The Fellowship Meal is in the new Multi-purpose room following worship. Dress casually for a time of fun and fellowship! If you have a shirt with the FUMC logo, wear it!

Next Wednesday evening we will begin our Wednesday evening activities for the fall. All of those opportunities were in the brochure distributed in worship earlier. They are all listed again in the bulletin this week. One of the events will be the gifts discovery class Rev. Karen and I will be leading.  The class will meet at 6:30 p.m. in room 117. We will be dismissed by 8:30. We meet for four weeks on Wednesday evenings. Are you aware of your spiritual gifts? Do you know how to nurture them? Are you using them as Christ intended? The gifts discovery class, entitled Serving from the Heart, can help you answer all those questions and move to a new level of service to God. Please come join the group on Wednesday evening for dinner and fellowship followed by a variety of other activities in addition to Serving from the Heart.

We did not share a "Power of One" moment in worship last week. However, do not forget that you make a difference! Your attendance, prayers, service, giving, and witness all have a powerful effect on First United Methodist!

            Grace and Peace,
            Steve Campbell
