Greetings!
Last evening Zach Carruthers led a workshop for persons who are looking for their next job. We had a very good turn out for the event and Zach did a fine job of presenting his material and fielding questions. I was pleased to have this event happen here. Several of those who attended requested to be added to a prayer list. Some of them are interested in the formation of a small group for support and networking. We will follow up on this to respond to these persons. One of the things Zach reminded us of is that there is a "hidden job market" out there. To learn of these possibilities one has to mobilize a network of family and friends who know people who know other people. So, if someone asks you to take a copy of their resume and "keep your ears open", please do it! It was a good event, and I appreciate Zach Carruthers offering to do it here.
Our Inviting Ministries Steering Committee met last Tuesday and accomplished a lot! Most of our time was spent planning for "The Big Day" on September 13th. All the youth and adult classes are invited to share the Sunday School hour at 9:00 in the Sanctuary. There will be a little extra time for coffee and donuts at the Fellowship time. Worship will be at 10:30. All our choral groups are being invited to practice some music and then come together for a "Mass Choir." Worship will be very musical and joyful! Then we will share an old fashioned pot-luck meal in the Multi-Purpose Room. I hope you will mark your calendar for that day! It will be filled with food, fellowship, and fun! Plus a big measure of inspiration! We will have worship on Saturday evening, the 12th, at the regular time. I hope you Saturday evening worshippers will come back Sunday for the Sunday School and fellowship meal. This will be a great day to introduce your friends to First UMC. Who could you invite to join you that day?
Are you a teacher, administrator or employee of a school system? We want to recognize you, thank you, and offer a prayer for you in all the worship gatherings on the weekend of August 22-23. Please call the office! Tell us your name, what your job is or what you teach, and where. We will print this information and share it in the bulletin that weekend. You are the ones who care for and educate the children who are so important to the future. Let us lift you up in prayer!
The display of "First Wear" polo shirts and tee's will be in the Narthex again this weekend. This is one way to advertise FUMC in the community. It can be an outreach tool and a fund raiser. Any proceeds from these purchases will go to a table and chair fun.
Nancy and I will be taking our summer vacation beginning late next week. I plan to be in the office part of the day next Thursday then we will be on our way. We are riding our motorcycle around the north shore of Lake Superior. Two other couples will join us. We look forward to the experience! Please remember us in your prayers as we travel. Support Rev. Karen with your prayers and presence as she preaches and leads in worship. I will be back in the pulpit on Saturday, August 15th.
This weekend in Worship Karen and I will both have a share in the sermon. The scripture this week is II Samuel 11:1-15. It is the story of David and Bathsheba. This glimpse of King David is pretty far removed from the young shepherd boy Samuel anointed to be king. We wonder what happened. We will take a deep look at this scripture. It will speak to all of us and remind us whose we are. I hope you will be present. Blessings to You,
Steve Campbell

FUMC Guide Book & Directory
Update Membership Information Does our church database have YOUR family membership record correct? Here is your chance to update YOUR record for our annual Guide Book & Directory (if you haven't already done so). It is time for us to update our database with any changes, additions, or deletions that may have occurred in YOUR family over the past year. Have you changed your phone number? Have you moved? Are you preparing to move soon? Are all of your children still at home and are they all included in your membership record? Do you want your record published? If you have not already informed the church office about changes to your record, please let us know now so that the information in the new Guide Book & Directory will be correct. Contact the church office via phone (229-8108) or e-mail (office@firstumcbs.org).
FUMC Guide Book & Directory-Advertising Opportunity We are in the process of updating the annual Guide Book & Directory for our church. This book will provide helpful information about our church and directory information for our church family. As last year, the book will be provided at no cost to our church, including the mailing to each family, and is being subsidized by the local businesses who advertise in it. If you own or manage a business and would like to find out about advertising in our book, please call the Church Office at 229-8108 or email to office@firstumcbs.org. Recent survey results by Guide Book Publishing show that 92.1% of families would rather patronize a Guide Book & Directory advertiser over a non-advertiser. It "does pay" to advertise in our new Guide Book & Directory. | |
