Cancer Support Network

The Cancer Support Network will not meet during the summer months. We will resume monthly meetings in the fall. Watch the newsletter for announcements regarding meeting times and locations. If you would like someone to contact you about the Cancer Support Network and our plans for the future, please call the church office.

            Friends,

I hope you read, and recall, the question Janice Bauch and Bob McDonald shared in their written reflections on attending the recent session of the Missouri Annual Conference. We heard this same question several times. It was not always worded in exactly the same way,  but the point was always clear. That question was, "What if every member of the congregation was making the same effort I am, would the church be growing or dying?" Well, it is a penetrating question, and very revealing for each of us. I hope you will ask yourself that question, and let the Holy Spirit guide you to the answer. When we think of the word "effort" in that question there are many specific actions to which it may refer. I think the emphasis is on inviting; but it could also apply to attending worship, offering prayers, giving financially, volunteering for service, and more.

Perhaps you are feeling this is the time to give more of yourself in the area of helping FUMC reach new individuals and families. As I have said and printed in the recent past, we are doing some revisioning of our Inviting Ministries. Working along with staff, and other lay persons, Maggie Hannah is the chair of our Inviting Ministries Council. The task is moving right along! It won't happen overnight, but we are greatly expanding the efforts we are making to invite, welcome, include, and connect persons. In the process we are being reminded that more names on the roll is not a worthy aim. More persons actively growing in their relationship with Christ and finding ways to give themselves in service is the aim! The two are not mutually exclusive by any means; but one has the mandate of the Gospel!

If you would like to know more about where and how you might be a more active part of our Inviting Ministries I am eager to visit with you. So is Karen Taylor and Reed Alberg. Be clear, our focus is helping you find a ministry area which uses your gifts and energy. It will not necessarily involve being on a committee. This is the time to move forward!  "What if every member of the congregation was making the same effort I am, would the Church be growing or dying?"

Rev. Karen, Jim and Jonathan are on vacation. Keep them in your prayers as they travel. I will be leading worship and preaching the next two weekends. I look forward to seeing you, and ask for your prayers. A little calendar on my desk says today, "Christians live around the world, but gather at the foot of the cross." In all four services this weekend we will be at the foot of the cross.

          Grace and Peace to you,

          Steve Campbell
FATHER'S DAY WEEKEND
Many of us have special plans this weekend for the celebration of Father's Day. Others of us will be calling up special memories appropriate to the day. In our worship gatherings we will recognize, pray for, and remember Fathers. Isn't worshipping together an essential part of celebrating the holiday?
COLLEGE-AGE CLASS FORMING
If you are home for the summer or live here year round, join us for a new college-age class beginning June 28 at the 9:10 Sunday School hour.
We will meet downstairs in room 012 and begin a 4-week study by Dave Ramsey called Generation Change.
  GROUNDS CARE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Do you enjoy working outside?  If so, FUMC could use a few more volunteers to help with grounds care.  We can offer you a chance to contribute to God's Kingdom while still enjoying the beautiful outdoors around our church.  Call John Rosendahl at 224-5660 if you are interested in helping.
