Another Benefit of CCWC Membership
CCWC Sets Date for 2010 WC Legislative Day      State Capitol

The California Coalition for Workers Compensation (CCWC) has co- hosted an annual WC Legislative Day in Sacramento since 2006.  The event provides CCWC members with an opportunity to come to Sacramento and meet with members of the California State Assembly and Senate, officials in the Schwarzenegger Administration, and other key stakeholders that impact workers' compensation policy in California.

CCWC has co-hosted this event with the Workers' Compensation Action Network (WCAN), the California Manufacturers & Technology Association (CMTA), and the California Chamber of Commerce.  The event has grown every year, and we hope to continue that trend in 2010.

It was this type of grass-roots involvement from CCWC members that helped achieve successful workers' compensation reform in 2004.  As the years pass and the Legislature considers new changes to the workers' compensation system, it is important that we continue to educate the Legislature about the impact of rising workers' compensation costs.

The California political scene will experience a great deal of change over the next two years.  We will see legislative elections and elections for important statewide offices like Insurance Commissioner and Governor.  Those that opposed workers' compensation reform in 2004 and those that have fought to overturn those reforms every year since will no doubt seek to leverage this coming political change for their own benefit.

California employers face changes to the workers' compensation system that could return us to the days when costs spiraled out of control.  Your attendance at the 2010 WC Legislative Day will ensure that those elected to public office in California hear both sides of the story.

The 2010 WC Legislative Day will be held on April 5th and 6th in Sacramento, and there is no cost to attend.  The group will convene on the afternoon of the 5th for a briefing, and meetings with officials will commence on the morning of the 6th.

More information on how to participate will be coming soon!
CCWC 8th Annual WC Policy Conference to be held in Newport Beach

Plan to join us July 21-23, 2010 at the beautiful Hyatt Regency Newport Beach for the CCWC 8th Annual Workers' Compensation Policy Conference.  The hotel is conveniently located near John Wayne/Orange County Airport and is very accessible to Southern California attendees driving to the conference.

Please look for more details on the conference in upcoming issues of the Weekly Update.  If you have questions in the meantime, feel free to contact Association Services Director Amy Lai at 916.441.4111 or amy@ccwcworkcomp.org.
Thank You for Supporting CCWC's Advocacy Efforts!

The California Coalition on Workers' Compensation recently mailed each of you a 2010 Dues Renewal invoice.  We want to thank those of you who have already submitted your payment.  If you have not yet returned your dues payment, we urge you to do so immediately and renew your pledge to preserve the 2003 and 2004 reforms.

CCWC is an organization dedicated to aggressively defending the workers' compensation reforms that have led to job creation in the private sector and saved tax dollars at the local level.  Without the support of our membership, there would be no advocate in Sacramento representing the broad spectrum of California's public and private, small and large employers.

Your membership dollars are the only way that CCWC can continue to have a voice inside the Legislature and with regulators across the state to ensure that our state's workers' compensation system does not return to the way it was.  If you have questions about your dues invoice or did not receive it, please call us immediately at 916.441.4111.
