Greetings!

Last year, nearly 71,000 children in Texas were victims of abuse and neglect - and that's just the reported cases.  April is Child Abuse Prevention Month.  Take time this month to help raise awareness about child abuse and neglect and encourage your family and friends to support our community's children in need.  Our Friends Place is one way the generational cycle of abuse and neglect is ending.
Breaking the Cycle: Kelli
Girl at Group Home
When Kelli was 3 months old, her mother abandoned her and she and her father lived out of his car.  She later "couch surfed" at friends' homes.  Her school district eventually referred her to Our Friends Place and Kelli called for help herself.

Kelli has not succumbed to the adversities presented her.  She is a little behind in school, but is excelling.  Currently a sophomore getting A-B grades, she will take classes over the summer so she can start school in the fall as a senior.  She has her life mapped out.  With plans to graduate next May, Kelli is voluntarily taking a SAT review course and wants to attend Texas Tech and major in engineering.

Because of you, Kelli has a safe and stable home where she can achieve her goals and work towards becoming a Red Raider!
And the Ebby Goes to...
Sarah Losinger Sarah Losinger

Our Friends Place is honored name Sarah as the 2009 Ebby Award recipient for her achievements for the advancement of girls and women.  Sarah will be presented the Ebby Award at our annual gala on May 16.
