Our Friends Place is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to providing a foundation for girls and young women to build from adversity by learning a self-reliant approach to their own development.

Greetings!

Thank you for all your support in 2008!  Your dedication gave 33 girls and young women a home and a chance for a life of quality and promise.

You are an important friend to the girls and young women living at Our Friends Place, and we want to share with you their stories and successes with our new monthly e-Update, Friend to Friend.
Homeward Bound
Young girl distressed holding her head The reality for many youth is that they must assume the role of an adult well before they reach adolescence.  A childhood is something they will never know, and Shelby is an unfortunate example.

With an absent mother, Shelby was forced to raise her six younger siblings.  When the children were removed for neglect and placed into protective care, Shelby's behavior problems required a more restrictive and structured environment. Overtime, her behavior improved and Shelby was ready to take the next step...to Our Friends Place.

With your support, Our Friends Place is helping Shelby heal.  Upon arriving at the Therapeutic Group Home, Shelby commented, "I can't believe there aren't any cameras."  You are providing her a stable and safe home unlike any place she's been before.

Shelby is now 15 and family reunification is a good possibility for her family.  Her mom has completed programs through protective services and is looking for suitable housing.  Shelby is participating in individual and group therapies at Our Friends Place, and her mom will also soon be attending family therapy provided by Our Friends Place.

Without you, Shelby might have become just another statistic.  But with your support of Our Friends Place, you are giving her hope of reuniting with her family and a chance at happiness far into the future.
Do You Know A Hero Among Us?
Each spring, Our Friends Place recognizes a hero among us who has made significant achievements for the advancement of girls and/or women in North Texas.

This year's Ebby Award, named after its first recipient Ebby Halliday Acers, will be presented at Our Friends Place's annual gala on May 16 at Brookhaven Country Club.

If you or a group would like to nominate someone, please click here for the guidelines and application and to see who else is a past recipient.  The deadline for nominations is Monday, March 16.
Thank you for supporting all our girls and young women.  You are helping us break the cycle of abuse, neglect, poverty and homelessness!

Sincerely,
Sue Thiers Hesseltine
