The articles within each Hurt2Healing issue are from people who wish to share their stories and Pearls of Wisdom to offer each reader hope, strength, comfort and resolution. Subjects such as Depression, Stress/Anxiety, Fear, Anger, Neglect, Substance Abuse, Addictions, Divorce, Domestic Violence, and Sexual Assault will be discussed in the H2H E-Zine.

Black Women in America Raising Boys: "Being a Part of Something Great" By Mavis Jackson, LCDC, CART
My name is Mavis Jackson and I am the mother of five children, four of them boys. I not only was blessed to be a part of the life-changing documentary "Raising Boys", I also received the honor of being the woman that God chose to give birth to the extraordinary black man who gave birth to it. It was a privilege to be interviewed and to share my experience, strength and hope about the topic, and having first hand knowledge of that, my son knew I easily qualified.
I was a single mother and for most of my children's lives we were on welfare and food stamps. We had some challenges, but with the help of God and my mother, we made it through them. I had friends who had boys that were going to prison, getting addicted to drugs and making other negative life choices, but my boys didn't get caught up. Today I believe that was due to the grace of God and the love of a family that would not spare the rod.
I was raised by a single mother and had a loving relationship with my biological father. Throughout my life I saw my mother work hard and overcome the challenges associated with being a single mom. Her example gave me the courage I needed when I found myself in that same position. I became a mother at 16, and I tell everyone that my children and I "grew up together", which made for a very special bond.

The month of February is known affectionately as "Love Month". There are all types of advertisements that sway us to purchase items to adorn our love ones, to show just how much we love them. For some this particular holiday can be quite depressing. It seems as though everyone has a sweetheart, and we tend to think GOD has overlooked us again. If that isn't enough, society teaches us that if you are a single woman raising children, you are the product of a broken family. This puts us in the mind set that in order to be whole; we must have a man in our lives to be complete. Now we are willing to engage in any type of relationship in order to feel loved. Why do we as women diminish our self-worth to maintain unhealthy relationships with men? Ladies remember GOD has not forgotten and he is saving the very best for you. In the meantime learn to love on GOD and he will display the portrait of love you have always longed to experience. In return when your blessing arrives you will know he was sent from GOD.
The Perfect Love
Love is the passion that exists between two people that goes beyond the physical attraction.
Love is that tiny surge of anticipation that weakens your knees at the thought of being in the presence of the one who professes his love to you.
Love is dreaming of that perfect man. Someone who loves you, and cares for you despite your every fault
Someone who listens when you speak and is not quick to judge
Someone who commends you for your strengths and shields you from your fears
Someone who does not take you for granted and will do anything in his power to ensure your every happiness
When you awake you realize that dream is your reality.
Love is giving of yourself unselfishly to someone that needs more than they are actually able to give.
No task is too great, and every challenge is met head on with the expectation of an absolute resolution
This love that I speak of is undeniably the most fulfilling I have ever known
Each day I awake to embrace a new horizon, I thank GOD for loving me unconditionally and allowing me to experience the meaning of true love
So that when he prepares a mate to enter into my life, I will be able to share the same unconditional love GOD has so graciously shown me

How to Forgive and Begin Healing Part I
By Ebony S. Muhammad, CT
One of the thorniest and most difficult things we humans are ever called upon to do is to respond to evil with kindness, and to forgive what we may perceive to be the unforgiveable. It's much easier for us to think of ways to get someone back or inflict pain on them so they share some of our pain. Sometimes we call ourselves "helping" Allah (God) chastise someone, but all of this is out of our own pain and need for justice and healing. Brother Jabril Muhammad stated that Revenge is the bastard child of Justice. In the end, that's all we seek when we have been wronged.

Time Is Too Short
By: Lady 4.0
As we embark on the beginning of a new year, we should take time to reflect and concentrate on what is truly important. Even though we have all experienced hurt in one form or another, how we handle those situations can have a dramatic impact on our availability to forgive. As you read the article below make a conscious choice to forgive to begin your process of healing. For some of you it may not be easy, but doing anything worthwhile never is.

The Black Male Perspective on INTIMACY
(A Qualitative Study)
By: Ebony S. Muhammad, CT

Unlike any other Black man in the world, the Black man in America has survived the 400 plus year old lineage of the Trans-Atlantic slave trade. Furthermore, he survived being robbed of his culture, language, God, family, education, and nature. Yet, today he suffers severely from broken homes and family structure as he once knew it before being brought to America. These factors are significant to his current success or lack thereof to experience closeness and intimacy within male: female relationships as he truly desires to. As a result, the current image and life style of the Black man in America conveys a lack of interest, desire, and effort to experience and facilitate intimacy within a male: female relationship.
A more accurate account of how much value or emphasis is placed on intimacy by Black men is needed. Also, any positive correlations between age, family structure, previous and present experience in relationships will be discussed. This study seeks to answer the questions of how successful Black men will be in intimate relationships, if he so chooses to, and if Black men in America are interested in intimacy and being intimate in relationships, according to their own definition of the word.
There have been implications that women, with the exception of some, view and judge Black men in a general manner contributing all wrongs done by a few to the entire population as to imply that the negative behavior define what it means to be a Black man. This study seeks neither to prove or disprove the above statement, but to understand the root or why that conception or misconception exists. Thus, to know what it means to be a Black man in America you must ask one.

The Origin of Hurt2Healing
By Bro. Jesse Muhammad- Final Call News Staff Writer , Motivational Speaker, and Artist
HOUSTON (FinalCall.com) - Earlier this year, an article in the popular VIBE magazine asked the question, "What happened to the Millions More Movement?" "The Millions More Movement is alive and well in the city of Houston," said Millions More Movement National Co-Convener Dr. Ben Chavis. Those sentiments were echoed at a Father's Day press conference here, with a surprising announcement. Pastor Kirbyjohn Caldwell, a prominent pastor of mega-church Windsor Village United Methodist Church, had offered his church's facility and agreed to partner with the Millions More Movement Ministry of Justice in its July 1, 2006 March Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (organized by men, for women). The march, originally scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. from downtown Houston, is themed "From Hurt to Healing, Protecting the Essence of Our Sisters." Supporters include Essence magazine Editorial Director Susan Taylor, the Hip Hop Summit Action Network (HSAN) of New York, Million Woman's March Organizing Committee of Philadelphia, Congressman Al Green, Houston City Councilman Jarvis Johnson and a host of others.

With the theme "From Hurt to Healing: Protecting the Essence of Our Sisters," the Planning and Execution Committee of the Ministry of Justice designed a rally and march unprecedented in the city. How so? Because it was organized chiefly by men for women, who were given an opportunity to express their hurt and the means by which the healing could begin. The rally's opening remarks were delivered by lead organizer Deric Muhammad, who also serves as the Local Ministry of Justice spokesman, which were followed by the pouring of libations by Kofi Taharka of the National Black United Front. Anxious to turn the program over to the Sisters, Bro. Deric then quickly introduced key male leaders in attendance who all came forth to share brief words of support. "Any one who does not love Black women does not love himself," stressed Congressman Al Green (TX-9), who was instrumental in having a congressional bill passed last year to fight domestic violence. Councilmember Jarvis Johnson (District B) called on all men to start taking charge. "We must patrol ourselves and take a stronger stand for our women." As he spoke, others stood with blown-up composite sketches of a sexual predator that he and others are working to get off of the streets.
