Linnethia "NeNe" Leakes, from "The Real Housewives of Atlanta", served as the keynote speaker. Leakes is the founder of Twisted Hearts, a charity that brings awareness to the plight of domestic violence against women of all races.

Leakes briefly shared her experiences as a victim of domestic abuse and her mission in offering her voice and support to those in need of help. She has also authored the book, Never Make the Same Mistake Twice, a memoir discussing her fractured childhood, abusive relationship, struggles with being a single mother, landing Mr. Right, and all the lessons she's learned along the way.

Raising Boys:
Tips for Single Moms
Volume 1
Presented by Deric Muhammad & Moody Entertainment
November 5th Premier

raising boys

We all agree that the Black man needs to come and take back his home and his community. However, the reality is that RIGHT NOW 70% of Black families are headed by the female.
Our communities are suffering and prisons are being filled every day because of the lack of attention that is being placed on this phenomenon. Deric Muhammad addresses the struggles and offers innovative solutions in a straightforward and gripping manner to single mothers raising boys. Directed and produced by Lawrence Moody of Moody Entertainment,  this is a must see documentary.
Come and witness the first ever premiere. Official sponsors include Mary Kay, Houston City Council Member Jarvis Johnson, Brother Jesse Blog and more to be announced.

The Psychology of Gossip Part II
By Ebony S. Muhammad, CT

JUST SAY NO Rumors

Some of us attempt to use deceptive intelligence to appear as though we are not gossiping, but that we are merely "stating facts" and expressing a level of "concern".  The difference between helping and harming is the motive.  What are you seeking to accomplish by "informing" someone of another person's business or even your own business?  Sometimes we spread our own mess with gossip so that we can become the new household name or be accepted into certain circles.  Would we make those statements in the presence of the person or people we are speaking about?

The Face of Jealousy & Envy  Part I
By Ebony S. Muhammad, CT
Woman in Mirror

Greetings,

I would like to set the tone by stating to recognize the face of jealously and envy does not imply that we turn to the left or right, but that we have the internal conversation; self-examination, self-analysis, and self-correction process with ourselves first and foremost. So, in the words of my sister Qiana X, "Everybody, pull out your mirrors"!

Greeting Readers,

This month I am posting something relating to domestic violence, which is most times always a result of substance abuse.  It was written by a very dear friend of mine, actually another "daughter", who found herself being the listening ear of a friend caught up in a violent relationship.   Out of a need to respect that woman's confidentiality, and a need to express her thoughts and feelings about it, Felicia wrote this piece.  It is real, poignant and takes you right into the heart of the matter.  Enjoy & Be Blessed.

"OUT OF TIME"

When I awoke there was a slight glimmer as my eyes tried to adjust to the pain of partial visibility

I lay in a bed of luke warm redness that slowly trickles down in all directions
The pain was so excruciating I could barely grasp a thought long enough to form the idea of scattered words

How did my life come to this? I mean educated, successful, and beautiful; well at least in my mind, no thanks to you
I've always heard of the statistics, but I never thought I would be one

Loving you has taken the life I took for granted, and reduced it to nothing more than a meaningless episode of another canceled soap opera
Anything that had any meaning has been totally stripped away as if it were a mere mirage in the lonely desert of desperation

But tonight there was a change, a change that's been a long time coming
When you raised your hand to strike me this time, I struck back; and at such a force you lost your balance

I surprised you I'm sure because you began to beat me uncontrollably until I wasn't certain if I had lost consciousness
I don't quite remember grabbing that cast iron fireplace poker and exposing you to the type of pain I have grown accustomed

I scramble toward the stairs to escape your continuous thrashing
Suddenly I see it, the shiny metal object I often begged you to discard because I felt it's possession was not necessary
I clutched it with the last bit of energy I possessed

Your next blow would definitely be your last, as we both struggled to gain complete control
I hear the sound of an echoing cannon and we both fall to the floor

I'm praying that God spares my life as I am not prepared to take that eternal journey
I slowly slip in and out of consciousness and finally realize the red silhouette that surrounds me, belongs to you. My life has been spared once again (Thank God)

I know I should be relieved my suffering has now come to an end, but the funny thing is I already miss you
Knowing that God has given me permission to live is blissful. Now I can take back my life and
become the woman God has always intended

Felicia Watson

Peace and Blessings to you all,

Ms. Mavis, LCDC

My oldest sister told me, "Believe none of what you hear and half of what you see, because your perception is limited without all of the facts".
In our lives, we may see parallels among ourselves and others, and feel it is acceptable to discuss sensitive matters that could potentially cause damage.
Some of us cannot function if there is not gossip/scandal of some sort taking place.  If there isn't, we create it by dropping these lines, "Girl did you hear ...?" or "Man what do you think..."?  I make the distinction according to gender, because contrary to popular belief, men gossip just as much as women, according to Social Issues Research Center.  The difference is that women are more animated,  detailed, but less discreet.  However, it happens with both genders near equally.

The Origin of Hurt2Healing

h2h article
HOUSTON (FinalCall.com) - Earlier this year, an article in the popular VIBE magazine asked the question, "What happened to the Millions More Movement?" "The Millions More Movement is alive and well in the city of Houston," said Millions More Movement National Co-Convener Dr. Ben Chavis.
Those sentiments were echoed at a Father's Day press conference here, with a surprising announcement. Pastor Kirbyjohn Caldwell, a prominent pastor of mega-church Windsor Village United Methodist Church, had offered his church's facility and agreed to partner with the Millions More Movement Ministry of Justice in its July 1, 2006 March Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (organized by men, for women).
The march, originally scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. from downtown Houston, is themed "From Hurt to Healing, Protecting the Essence of Our Sisters." Supporters include Essence magazine Editorial Director Susan Taylor, the Hip Hop Summit Action Network (HSAN) of New York, Million Woman's March Organizing Committee of Philadelphia, Congressman Al Green, Houston City Councilman Jarvis Johnson and a host of others.

h2h march

With the theme "From Hurt to Healing: Protecting the Essence of Our Sisters," the Planning and Execution Committee of the Ministry of Justice designed a rally and march unprecedented in the city. How so? Because it was organized chiefly by men for women, who were given an opportunity to express their hurt and the means by which the healing could begin. The rally's opening remarks were delivered by lead organizer Deric Muhammad, who also serves as the Local Ministry of Justice spokesman, which were followed by the pouring of libations by Kofi Taharka of the National Black United Front. Anxious to turn the program over to the Sisters, Bro. Deric then quickly introduced key male leaders in attendance who all came forth to share brief words of support. "Any one who does not love Black women does not love himself," stressed Congressman Al Green (TX-9), who was instrumental in having a congressional bill passed last year to fight domestic violence.
Councilmember Jarvis Johnson (District B) called on all men to start taking charge. "We must patrol ourselves and take a stronger stand for our women." As he spoke, others stood with blown-up composite sketches of a sexual predator that he and others are working to get off of the streets.
