Service Dog Eye Exams

Eye Care for Animals  and Guide Dogs of the Desert are collaborating to provide mandatory eye exams to guide dogs and guide dogs in training.
 
This is a free service offered by American College of Veterinary Opthamologists. This is the 2nd year this program has taken place and the 2nd National Service Examines Program runs from May 3, 2009 through May 9, 2009.
 
To qualify, dogs must be active working dogs who were certified by a formal training program or organization or currently enrolled in a formal training program.

Sago Palm Toxic to Pets 
 
sagoThe Sago palm with its dark green leaves and hairy trunk is a popular houseplant. It is also highly toxic to cats and dogs.

Since 2003, the ASPCA has seen an increase by more than 200 percent of sago palm and cycad poisonings, and 50 to 75 percent of those ingestions resulted in fatalities. All parts of the plant are toxic, not just the seeds or nuts, and common signs of ingestion include vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, depression, seizures and liver failure.

Macy's Community Fundraiser 
Macy'sGuide Dogs of the Desert is participating in Macy's Community Shopping fundraiser, an all-day shopping event dedicated to raising funds for local nonprofit organizations.

When you purchase a Macy's Community Shopping Day ticket directly from Guide Dogs of the Desert, ticket proceeds will go to Guide Dogs of the Desert. Purchase a $10 ticket for Macy's Community Shopping Day and enjoy a savings pass for 10 - 20% off almost everything at Macy's, a $10 off coupon for one purchase of $25 or more at selected stores, special samplings from event sponsors, and the chance to win a $500 Macy's shopping spree. 

You can use the savings pass and $10 off coupon on Saturday May 16th at the Macy's in Sherman Oaks, South Coast Plaza, Palm Desert, Del Amo, or Victoria Gardens.
