Happy New Year
Thank you from Roccie Hill, Executive Director of Guide Dogs of the Desert

Roccie and Sophie I want to take a moment and thank everyone for their generous support throughout the past year. Without it, we could not provide these amazing service dogs
to individuals of the blind community.

In this time of economic hardship, we are humbled by your commitment to our organization.

The staff, board, volunteers and most of all, clients of Guide Dogs of the Desert, thank you and wish you a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.
Update on Guide Dogs of the Desert
move to San Jacinto Valley

Dear friends,

I wanted you to be the first to know about the latest update on the move of our training facility to the San Jacinto Valley. We had thought this would happen in January/February of this year; however, our dates have changed and the move will now not occur until June.  This will allow us to complete the entire season of classes here in our current facility.  Our plans are to close escrow in June, develop the appropriate facilities at the new site in July/August, and hold our grand opening in September 2010.

If you have any questions regarding this, please do not hesitate to email or to call me.

Roccie Hill, Executive Director
barry Thank you Barry!

Thank you Barry - your "A Gift of Love" concert series makes it possible for us to continue giving safe mobility, loving companionship and the "miracle of independence" to the blind.

Jensen's Loves Service Dogs!

During the entire month of February, Jensen's is demonstrating that love by asking customers if they would like to donate $1 or $5 to Guide Dogs of the Desert. Those who donate will be able to put their name on a paw print which will be displayed in the store. All the Jensen's in the Coachella Valley will be participating and Ambassador Dogs will be at each Jensen's on Monday, February 1st to help kick off the promotion. If you visit a Jensen's in February - please tell them how much you appreciate their efforts on behalf of Guide Dogs of the Desert - We look forward to seeing you there!

New Years Resolution!
With the hustle and bustle of the holidays behind us we can once again focus on quality time with our pets. Dogs look forward to a routine, exercise, and leadership. If we spend some quality time with our dogs doing obedience and incorporate some fun on a daily basis they will be easier to live with, not to mention happier/healthier dogs.  If you find that your dog has put on a few extra pounds over the holidays it is a great time to start going for long walks and/or a good game of fetch. Please seek the advise of your veterinarian for an appropriate weight loss program for your pet.

Winter is officially here.  Please use caution in the cold weather just as we would with extreme heat. For those dogs that visit the snow or spend time outdoors, they should have protection from the cold. Please take the time to check their feet for ice that may accumulate between their pads.
If you are going for a hike in the snow be sure to put booties on your pet to protect their feet from the elements. Some cities use salt for de-icing sidewalks and streets that can burn the pads of your dogs or cause intestinal upset if they chew on their feet.

Please protect your pets from antifreeze. Although it is sweet smelling it is very toxic. Dogs should not be left in a car during the winter. The cold weather can act as a refrigerator/freezer depending on your area and pets can die of hypothermia just as people can.

Guide Dogs of the Desert
would  like to thank our sponsors for their support.
