1- ICT Marrakech 2012

IATEFL, MATE and the British Council worked together to ensure the success of the ICT Marrakech conference. Over 200 delegates took part in the conference, with plenary sessions from  Vance Stevens, Prithvi Shrestha and  Gavin Dudeney. There was also an online plenary session with members of the  IATEFL Learning Technologies Special Interest Group.

Participants shared a great deal: ideas, experiences, skills and friendship!

"The conference was absolutely amazing. We enjoyed it loads"

"So interesting! We have got so many ideas from Vance Stevens' plenary."

"I had the chance to hear presentations on IT from people representing different parts of the globe"

"It was a fruitful conference. I've learned plenty from it."

2- Peter Lucantoni in Morocco

Peter held workshops on "Differentiation" and teaching multilevel classes in Tetouan, Marrakesh, Casablanca, Beni Mellal and Kenitra - in total there were 600 teachers attending! One of the teachers who attended the workshop in Tetouan told me:

Well let me tell you that it was exactly what we needed. I personally never knew how to deal with multileveled classrooms. I used to feel sorry for those students who can't do the exercise and I used to comfort myself by saying "I did all I could , but it's them who need to pay more attention and make more efforts" after I attended the workshop, I went to the classroom determined to use some of the activities Peter suggested . I used the "poem" activity focusing on can and can't because the previous lesson was about ability (using can and can't). When I asked my students to finish the lines to come up with a short poem they were surprised and I could see question marks floating on their heads but I asked them not to worry, and just give it a try!! The things they wrote were really amazing!!

Premier Skills English

http://premierskills.britishcouncil.org/

This week, we have just published the first in a new series of videos and articles based round a featured club. Each week on Premier Skills English, we will be focusing on one club. For each club, there is a video guide from the Premier League (with activities and worksheets to download), a predictions video blog (more about the city than the team), a complete set of player profiles, a match report and a players' quiz.

This week on Premier Skills English, the featured club is Norwich City. Watch the club video, the prediction video, read the club and player profiles and complete the activities. And I will give a special prize of Gavin Dudeney's book, How to Teach English with Technology, to the first person to contact me and tell me the nickname of Norwich City Football Club. So get onto Premier Skills!
