"Rabat Stories"
Parallel to the British Film Week, 16 young filmmakers from ISCA (L'Institut Spécialisé du Cinéma et de l'Audiovisuel ) worked for one week in November on 4 different short documentaries of 3 minutes each under the supervision of two British directors from the Documentary Film Institute in the UK. Each film opening a small and short window onto the life of ordinary people in Rabat: "The Grave Digger", "Moroccans of Libya", "Recycling Man" and "Menchefouch". Asmaa El Alaoui, Director of ISCA, says "The workshops conducted in our premises were of a great success. The students enjoyed the training led by Noémie Mendelle and Flora Cosque both at the theoretical and technical levels. The two facilitators from the Scottish Documentary Institute have done a remarkable job. The students were able to put into practice all the concepts related to the documentary that were acquired as part of their studies and have shown great professional and human qualities. We are very keen of fostering our collaboration with the British Council to promote cinematography training and cultural exchange".

Internship at the British Council
The purpose of our Internship Programme is to offer successful candidates an opportunity to improve their skills and enhance their educational experience through practical work assignment while gaining experience of working in an international environment. It is open to young people who are 18 years or above, undergraduate or graduated from University and currently a student in completion of a course of study. Fluency in English is desirable. Computing skills, as well as knowledge of British Council work areas are advantageous. Apply now.

Connecting Classrooms - from Hampshire to Beni Mellal
Within the context of the "Connecting Classrooms Project", four UK teachers from Hampshire visited their reciprocal schools in Morocco particularly in the region of Tadla-Azilal from 17 to 21 of October 2011. The key aims of this exchange visit were to meet face to face the coordinators of the Moroccan schools involved in the project, to visit pupils in their classrooms, to meet key stakeholders linked to the Ministry of National Education and to keep up regular contact between the two clusters and reinforce their partnership more closely. The exchange visit left positive impressions and impact on both teachers and pupils visited. It was an excellent opportunity to establish stronger links between the two clusters, keep the project seem two-sided, share experience and best practice and forge ahead the partnership next year, all this in an effective and interactive way which was highly appreciated by the school partners. | |

Quality Assurance: Standards and Practices
As part of the British Council's international programme « Skills for Employability », the ESITH (
École Supérieure des Industries du Textile et de l'Habillement), Doncaster College (United Kingdom), and the British Council held a conference entitled « Quality Assurance in Education and Training: Standards and Practices on 26 October at ESITH. During this conference, a panel of Moroccan and British experts discussed the quality assurance process in the Moroccan education and training (project underway), as well as the British experience in this field. The Doncaster College representatives presented their quality assurance model and show its impact on employability and on the satisfaction of employers' expectations. | |

UNAOC Fellows : Towards an Alliance of Civilizations
Rabat hosted eleven young leaders from the UNAOC fellows-fall 2011in October; This fellowship is a jointed project between the United Nations Alliance of civilisation in partnership with the British Council, the League of Arab States, The Islamic Educational Scientific and cultural Organization (ISESCO); for a debate on Young People and their Perspective of the Future- Youth from Europe and North America and Young Moroccans.. It was a unique opportunity to create a platform of exchange and dialogue between the twelve fellows coming from North America and Europe involved the alliance of civilization fellows and 60 young Moroccans, the discussion was centred on bridging the gap between the West and the East by finding a middle ground for a discussion that would eventually lead to an alliance instead of a conflict or Crash of civilization. The end the discussion leads to talk about how the Moroccan youth can be part of the change taking place in Morocco and the wider region as agents of change by showing their commitment to this land by being responsible citizens.
