Panathlon provides coaching funds, equipment and multi-sport competitions for young disabled people around the country.

Mayor extends support through to 2012

Following the successful pilot year funding in 2010 from the Mayors Sports Legacy Plan, further support of £86,000 in 2011 and again in 2012 has been offered to extend and enhance Panathlon. This means that in the three years to the lead up to the Olympics and Paralympics, the Mayor of London will have invested £255,000 in developing grass roots disability sport, through the Panathlon Challenge.

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson said, 'The Panathlon Challenge is a fantastic competition. It is about taking part, aspiration and achievement, three of the best motivators for young people."

Essex Panathlon
Special schools from NW Essex kicked off the 2010/11 Panathlon season with an enthusiastic performance at Braintree College on Nov 25th. Over 50 Panathletes competed in 5 sports, supported by young leaders from Braintree College who completed their Panathlon training and then successfully ran the competition a week later.

In a tight competition, Southview school from Witham narrowly edged out Shorefields from Clacton, with Marketfield from Colchester in third. (Full scores in the results section.)
