Today In Metal History
Klaus Meine of the Scorpions, with a receding hairline
On this day in 1984, The Scorpions had "Rock You Like A Hurricane" in heavy rotation on MTv, a song which sold a bazillion copies, and can still be heard blasting from bars every night, despite the fact that Klaus Meine had a receding hairline and was no kind of heartthrob.

We're sure Justin Bieber will stand the test of time too.

P.S. It's the music, stupid!

King-Hellion Of The Month: Kendra Dolton
Name: Kendra Dolton
Location: New York, USA

Metal Moniker: Kendarr The Karaokian

Credentials:  Has mastered the most potent metal spells. Here, she's making the devil horns, but aiming them back at the Gene Simmons tongue, creating an expanding feedback loop of pure evil that consumed every church within 666 square miles.

Mercury Lounge Sunday, Salem Next Week
We sure hope you've got your helmets nailed on, because we've got two brain damaging nights of theatrical rock about to go upside your head! (We really apologize for that sentence, but we're on deadline, and, strangely, this cheap wine isn't helping our focus.) This Sunday, 10/17, we're playing with the mighty PUi, the hooky as hell Ghosts Of Eden, and metal powerhouse Charetta at Mercury Lounge in NYC.

King Hell at Mercury Lounge, Sun. 10/17, 9:00

How mega-dope-tacular will this show be? It was featured in the Wall Street Journal (who, strangely, dig us). Doors at 7pm, we're on at 9:30 (sharp). Get there early-ish, 'cause this show will sell out! The Facebook invite.

King Hell at Dodge Street (Salem) 10/23The following Saturday, we return to Dodge Street in Salem MA for a Halloween show with with Planetoid and The Force, who positively tore it up at our last show together. Costumes ferociously encouraged! The Facebook invite.

Doc Thompson and Samwell at Highline BallroomIs it vain to share pictures of yourselves? Possibly, but we're too busy admiring how amazing we look to think it through. In any case, these pics from Highline Ballroom (courtesy of Kristin Tully) were too sweet not to share!
HornsBest Metal Album Covers - Part 1
Metal is not an art form without deficiencies. Often they are mental. But what metal does not lack for is F**cking Awesome Album Art (that's a genre). Because as deep as Dylan's Blood On The Tracks is...

Bob Dylan's Blood On The Tracks album

...no one ever looked at the cover and said "YES!!!!", the way millions have with, say...

Judas Priest's Painkiller album

...here follow some equally subtle classics.

Iron Maiden - The Number Of The Beast

Iron Maiden's The Number Of The Beast album

The album cover that gave Christian parents everywhere a collective stroke, Number Of The Beast features Iron Maiden's innocuously named mascot Eddie, the most bad-ass burn victim ever, who incurred his injuries in the fires of Hell. Note, Eddie isn't suffering any damnation, he's actually controlling the devil. Implication? Sign on with Iron Maiden and you will command the very forces of Hell. So, no, screw you mom and dad, you're grounded.

Slayer - Reign In Blood

Slayer's Reign In Blood

Of course, the band God-fearing parents should have been breaking out the bible belt over was Slayer, except they'd never heard of them--until they woke up in pain one night to find their kids carving the band's name into their foreheads. This cover looks like something Hieronymus Bosch would paint with a migraine. In fact, it was done by an illustrator for the Village Voice... so maybe there is something to that whole Satanic liberal media thing.

Ozzy Osbourne - Ultimate Sin

Ozzy Osbourne's Ultimate Sin album

An epic Smörgåsbord of metal themes by Boris Vallejo (AKA the artist who inspired millions of bitchin' airbrushed vans), this cover goes to the 11th power of 11. Mushroom cloud? Check. Ozzy as demon, mired in the sticky spilled seed of Satan? Check. Succubus in zebra striped spandex, with an ass like two moons? Double-check! And aint she the spitting image of...

Teresa from Real Housewives Of New Jersey

...Teresa, from Real Housewives Of New Jersey? Right?? ...Um, thanks to a female friend of ours, who totally exists, for alerting us to this.

Motörhead - Orgasmatron

Motorhead - Orgasmatron cover

This is the most metal thing ever painted. Don't even try to argue the point, or Lemmy will give you his herpes, which no mortal can survive. But what really puts this album over the top of the edge of the peak of Mt. Everest is the the title: Orgasmatron... In God's name, what manner of physically ruinous orgasm does this... thing (there are no words for it) give you?? What, er, "station" does it pull into... and out of, and into, and out of, until you're nothing but rubble? All we know is after having your... horizons... expanded by this cavitating locumotive, you're gonna be able to make big money on the internet.

P.S. We did it! We have, with "locumotive", penned a retarded sexual pun that isn't yet Googleable!
Many thanks for reading, King-Hellions. See ya at Mercury Lounge and Dodge Street!

Metal regards,
The bastards in King Hell!
