"I'm Not Feeling So Well"
Protocol # 39 (Excerpt from "The Protocol Book")
Over the course of your career, you are going to seat someone in hygiene or in the operatory who will tell you they wish they had rescheduled. Often, the front desk - with good intention - will save an appointment. A patient will say they have a killer headache. A bad cough. They were up all night with the baby.
This protocol states that you accept their reason as legitimate and reschedule. Why? Because over 21 years, I have strong-armed a number of patients into keeping the appointment, and not once - as in, never - did the patient ever leave feeling better about my office. Remember the rule, "Always think long-term."
Rationale
If you enact protocols to maximize your daily productivity, a break here and there won't do you in. It is noteworthy that getting paid up front will go a long way toward pseudo-maladies that result in cancellations.
The bottom line is that when the scheduler or the assistant seating the patient and the doctor know this protocol, you don't stammer around twenty minutes, give an injection or start a procedure only to wish you hadn't. The day it happens and you lose productivity, you'll question this advice. Five years from now, when the patient is still in your practice and perhaps some of their friends, you'll thank me.

One-on-One Coaching with Dr. Rasner
His fee-for-service practice - located in one of the most economically repressed areas of the country - averaged over $4 million last year on a 4-day work week with one 2-day/week associate. Dr. Rasner has enjoyed 28 consecutive years of increase growth and profitability on less hours and less patients. How has he accomplished this? Not with a "Taj Mahal" of an office - rather a modest, efficient and "Walt Disney clean" facility. With 5,000 hours in continued education and a mastership in the AGD, Dr. Rasner understands that clinical excellence is at the heart and soul of realizing the dream. Dr. Rasner shares the principles for success, protocols and practices that he used to build and manage one of the top dental practices in the country.
