Protocol # 78 (Excerpt from "The Protocol Book"



In the course of a career, you will have patients make a commitment to a treatment plan. You may have even initiated the treatment with photographs, mounted models, or even a prepped tooth. Then, for a myriad of reasons, they will change their mind.

This protocol states that you embrace the mentality to assist them out of the commitment. In other words, make it easy for them through your attitude and any prior financial commitments to uncommit!


Rationale

The road is long and you'll have disappointments. You'll have patients eager and sky-high to commence the smile makeover. You'll take photographs, models, even construct whitening trays. You know next Monday (the day treatment will commence) we'll be "rocking'." Then, they break your heart. Your instinct is to talk them back into treatment. Fogettaboudit!
 
Trust me on this one. The goal is to make a bad situation better. Ask them: "What can I do to help you?" It's all right to suggest downsizing (if responsible) the proposed treatment plan.

Don't make them feel worse. Tell them you're here for the long run. When the time comes that is right for them, you'll be here.

I'd recommend you be excessive in givebacks. Eat your whitening tray models or the prepped tooth and provisional. Be nice. Think long-term. It will come back to you.
