Protocol # 14 *
This protocol tells the front desk staff member in charge of scheduling to send both a certified and regular mail letter to a patient that has broken two consecutive appointments that involve treatment in:
- quad scale and root planing
- crown and bridge
- root canal therapy
The certified mail receipt along with a copy of the letter must be kept in the chart.
Rationale
Can't afford to do free work, get sued or deal with the aggravation that follows incomplete dentistry.
Ever have a patient show up with an 18-month old temporary that now needs endo? They paid you $1,500 down to prep and provisionalize no.7-no.10. You did a great job. Made them look great. Then, they disappear only to return with a non-vital lateral incisor. You feel guilty. You also want to complete the case and finish getting paid. They tell you, "I tried to reschedule but your office couldn't get me in." You can't prove otherwise. So, they promise to be good and keep the rest of their needed visits and you "throw in" the endo for good will. Sound familiar?
Listen, I'm not advocating a ban on gratuitous care. I would just like it to be optional. Not because you think you might get in trouble. Without exception, the "big three" (crown and bridge, root canal, scaling and root planing) will lead you to this scenario.
This protocol is somewhat like a precision attachment. It's a stress breaker. Use it.

One-on-One Coaching
with Dr. Rasner
His fee-for-service practice - located in one of the most economically repressed areas of the country - grosses over 4.1 million per year on a 4-day work week with a 2-day/week associate and a substantial bottomline. Dr. Rasner has enjoyed 28 consecutive years of increased growth and profitability on less hours and less patients. How has he accomplished this? Not with a "Taj Mahal" of an office - rather a modest, efficient and "Walt Disney clean" facility. His team of 16 have been with the practice an average of 16 years without relying on financial bonuses tied to office productivity but rather by nurturing a "Thank God it's Monday" attitude. With 5,000 hours in continued education and a mastership in the AGD, Dr. Rasner understands that clinical excellence is at the heart and soul of realizing the dream. Dr. Rasner shares the principles for success, protocols and practices that he used to build and manage one of the top dental practices in the country.
