Greetings!
With Spring in the air and energy high, we at GLO are gearing up for a great month in March. As usual we have a ton of things happening including the school auction, developmental reports, new GLO Academy Majors starting, GLO Summer Adventures Camp (GSA), registration opening, Health Week and Spring Break. Be sure to check your mailboxes regularly and to be aware of important registration dates.
This month Tina and the GLO Students will complete our Alvarado Auction Project. This year we made an earth-toned bean bag chair decorated with a piece of artwork from every student in the program. Be sure to take a look at it on the 12th and to bid high. Thank you to Tina for spending so much of her free time sewing for us!
The GLO Staff are busy working on developmental reports. Although this report will have a new look this year, it will continue to focus on your child's social and emotional development, and on how your child spends his or her time here at GLO. Developmental reports will be placed in your mailboxes by the end of March. If you are interested in scheduling a conference with your child's GLO Teachers, please let us know.
At the time of writing we are preparing to meet with Mr. Broecker about the possibility of merging the ExCel and GLO Programs beginning next school year. There is a lot to be worked out, but we know that the merge can work based on other GLO Programs that have merged successfully. I want to thank the several families that have been asking about what this merge may mean to the program and for offering their input. Stay tuned for more information from GLO and Mr. Broecker.
We also wanted to say, thank you to the Lisser Family for donating a huge Star Wars Lego Set to us.
Enrollment for new students will begin on March 21st, so please remember to let us know if you have an incoming sibling for us to add to our list. Re-enrollment will follow in April. There will be a re-enrollment form in your mailbox when the time comes. Return it as soon as possible as we are running a very large waitlist. Sincerely, Melissa Serrano Site Director GLO at Alvarado 415-285-7756 alvaradod@gloinc.org

Health and Safety Week
The week of March 14 to March 18 will be Parent/Teacher Conference Week and early dismissal week. Children will come to GLO one hour earlier each day at no additional cost to you. Because we have an additional hour of program time, we like to make the most of it by making this week our annual "Health and Safety Week." All of our choices will be health themed and we will have different presenters visit the site. Students will also be taking health related neighborhood field trips during this week. Stay posted for a permission slip and more information.
We will end the week with our healthy buffet. If any parents would like to donate their favorite healthy treats, please do so. Also, if you would like to lend us a juicer, that would be wonderful as well.

February Kids' Clubs
Students had a wide variety of clubs to choose from this month. There really was something for everyone! Students danced and performed in GLO Idol. They got creative in Graffiti Art, learned or improved on a new skill in Knitting. In the Stop Motion Animation Club students built Legos that they brought to life with digital technology. In Scrapbooks, students created lasting memories by cutting and pasting. The Soul Food Club opened students' eyes, and mouths, to different cultures by cooking tasty treats. Our rowdy pirates worked together in the Pirate Ship Club to build one large, cardboard ship. Students in Spring Baseball kept the Giants Fever going and the Astronomy Club reached for the stars. Ask your children what they learned in Kids' Club. If your child has any particular interests, please encourage him or her to let their GLO Teachers know about it. They may be able to make it into a Kids' Club! Photo1:
Ian, Dustin, Andre, Aidan and Dimitri paint cardboard boxes which they will soon transform into their own pirate ship this month during the Pirate Kids' Club. Photo 2: Jordan, Zoe and Mella scan the school yard for ideas during the first week of the Mural Art Kids' Club. The group decided that the theme of their mural will be seasons. |

3rd and 4th Grade News
You may know by now, but we have made some changes to the staff of our 3rd and 4th grade groups. Sara and Juan have switched places. Sara will now lead the 4th grade group, while Juan will co-lead the 3rd grade group with Marvin. We hope that this change will be smooth and that it will give all involved an opportunity for professional development.

The new lineup of GLO Academy Majors will be up and running by the time you read this. This semester we are offering a science major called Roller Coasters. A sports major of Basketball and a Journalism Major called Yearbook.
Currently we are not sure what days each major will take place, but the goal is to rotate the days so that several of our part-time students could participate. Please see Chris if you have questions or suggestions concerning the schedule.
