April 2012
Greetings!
Every April we observe Earth Day. We also observe incremental but noticeable changes in our natural world. Majestic animals are poached, Kilimanjaro's glaciers are disappearing, weather patterns are changing and oceanic water levels are rising, putting island nations residents in jeopardy of losing their homes. We also see hope. We lost Wangari Maathai in 2011, but she left a legacy of environmental activism, not just in Africa, but around the globe. Through the efforts of charities like Elephant Energy and Water for South Sudan, rural communities in Africa and beyond are gaining access to reliable electricity and clean water. AfricAid is helping to educate the next generation of leaders in Tanzania who might not have a chance at an education at all. And people from all over the planet and from every background stood together to observe Earth Hour to raise awareness of the climate challenges we are facing. Our livelihoods at Africa Adventure Consultants are based on the thriving ecosystems of Africa. The natural world is our passion and it is our business. While Earth Day is something different for everyone, we all share the same planet; let's each do our part to tread lightly. Safari njema,

Tanzania Trip Spotlight
Tanzania celebrated 50 years of independence in December 2011. To recognize this milestone, we are highlighting a special Tanzania itinerary every month in 2012.
This month, we'll take a look at one of Tanzania's most famous features, one that has been drawing hikers since the dawn of adventure travel - Mount Kilimanjaro, affectionately known as 'Kili'.
Did you know that we offer eight different itineraries to climb Kili? You can take the most popular or the least known routes. You can attempt to summit in as few as six days or as many as nine. We have economical group treks, private custom treks and we even offer gear rental so you don't have to lug it all to Tanzania with you.
We are also hosting a Friends and Family climb this year departing in late August. We've had an overwhelming response to this hot offering - the trip is already sold out. Let us know if you're interested in a similar departure in 2013.
Have we convinced you to take on this mountain yourself? Call us to choose the route that's right for you and keep an eye on our blog for training tips from Kim and Jenny as they prepare for their climb.
